I called them a while ago and the secretary was apparently waiting to hear back from 1 or 2 partners.

I am still pretty worried that the delay has been due to my sub-par credentials. I don't wanna sound desperate ... oh well.

General Board / no follow-up?

I sent my resume and transcript to a firm and a week later their secretary called me up to schedule an interview  for me to meet with the partners. she asked me what would work best for them, and I replied I would try to accommodate their schedules. She said she would get back to me.
I got the call on monday, and today I still have not heard back from her. I don't want so sound needy and I figure out if they don't want me it's no good trying to press them further.

wtf? if they are not hiring they should at least get back to me and let me know!

(the secondary journals at my T20 do help -- according to 3Ls)

I think I did a good job on the write-on, but I feel strongly that the grading of the entries could be very subjective.

I did a term-time internship last semester. For this coming fall semester I've decided to defer an internship (with a judge) so that I can dedicate more time to interviews and stuff.

I already got very good summer internships this year.

well, maybe I should dedicate more time to myself .... for inner peace.

General Board / quasi-journal: worth-joining?

My school has 4 major journals (besides law review). There is also a program/ quasi-journal with an editorial board or something.

I must wait till mid-July to know whether I am selected for LR and secondary journals. since there are multiple factors as to whether I will write on, I now wonder if I should just join this quasi-journal ....

the topic is definitely not boring. But how good will it look on my resume? I do not intend to cheat them or anything. but I might/ might not be able to put 'journal' on my resume (have to double check on this)

I am asking this question because due to personal issues .. my GPA leaves much to be desired. Yet I do have some interviews lined up even before OCI, at some diversity job fairs.

I am afraid that my sub-par GPA will be frowned upon - though they certainly know my GPA anyway.

I concur with everybody here concerning the importance of format ...

now I have a solid grasp of all the legal writing techniques. A few days ago I went back to some older writing (literary criticism) which I need to edit for an upcoming book -- I found my old writing really looks loose and disorganize to me! I just wonder if I need to tighten them ... now that I am seeing the whole thing through different lenses

everybody knows that grades are of paramount importance.

In other professions, it seems to me that once a candidate is shortlisted, grades matter far less, and it's the interview (i.e. his/ her personality and 'fit' gleaned from the interview) that counts.

This is no true for our profession, is it?

what I mean is, a lot of law firms set grades cut-off and those who got shortlisted have all passed the stringent screening. Do grades matter (much) less then??
