Also, what exactly is "the big four"?

In your opinion, what would be a good alternative to law? I want to make a middle-class income(50k+), but at the same time have time for hobbies and prospective family. What can one do in finances?

What about those who major is finances/people who want to become involved in financial consulting?

Maybe, maybe not.  Look around - just on TV alone you see all these reporters who have JD's and MD's.  If you want a portable degee that allows you to do most anything - get an accounting degee with a CPA.



SO getting my CPA license(and other similar licenses) and perhaps majoring in finances/business administration is a good alternative to law?

I'm just exploring my options.

I posted a similar thread in the pre-law section, but I want hopeing to get some more feedback from the law students/lawyers here.

Anyway, I've been doing a lot of research, and most of it shows that law is NOT a good career choice. For example, big organizations like U.S. News rate is as one of the worst/most overrated careers. There have also been a flood of anti-law books and websites that show the field in a very negative night.

I am only 18 and I don't have a single college credit, so I may be jumping the gun. Yet, I have always seen law as a fascinating and some-what lucrative buisness, but the research that I have seen states to the contrary. I have felt that my dreams are shattered(which has resulted in nightmares and stuff  :'( ).

The negative things about the legal field are supposedly as follows:

--most big firms(mostly corporate law) hire young lawyers but work them to death for 7 years, and then they fire/hire some other new lawyer fresh from a top school

--the hours are crazy, and it's hard  to raise a family. Sometimes you work 60 to 70 hours and on the weekends

--once you're in law, it's difficult to start afresh in another field

--the massive tuition is a scam to get $$$ from students.

Is all of this true? Should I really worry about all of this, or should I be less gullible?

You know what? @#!* Law and @#!* law school.

I am not going to bust my balls for three years, be in debt 150K, and work in a system which is dissatisfying and stressful.


You really think making 150k is worth it? After taxes, loan repayments, living expense, etc, you will probably be saving only 20 to 30k. That is not f-ing worth it. My mom will soon make 100k a month through her life insurance business, so @#!* the idea of living a stressful life and making a net gain of f-ing 20 f-ing thousand f-ing dollars.I would rather have a family which I can raise properly and a wife who I will deeply love and care for.

70k is more than all three years of law school is going to cost me.  Sure there is the lost wages for the three years of law school, but who is to say that I didn't want to go?  Hell, I get to live the student life for three more years!  I hate working medial jobs, and ever since my dad attended law school (he started when I was 11), I've wanted to attend.

My dad went to American University, graduated @ 17% in his class, is partner, and now makes a couple hundred grand a year.  He works quite a bit, but not as much as the BIGLAW guys, and seems to enjoy what he is doing.  He worked pretty hard in law school, but he was raising me, and didn't seem to have any problem.  He now has two other children, is married, and has a couple of properties in the D.C. area.  These properties were quite expensive, given the area, but he was able to afford them, all the while paying back his 60k in student loans (not including interest).

The point is........you will find a job.........you will do fine.........most law schools are not bad investments.........

BTW,does T2 stand for top 20 and t4 for top 40?
