Law School Discussion

I wouldn't be that optimistic in this economy.  However, look at the bright side: you've got a year (or at least a semester) to try and bring up your overall GPA in time for 2L summer jobs. 

My guess would be, if you want biglaw/good clerkship/etc., you're going to have a very tough time unless you do really well next semester.  But if you have a *passion* for the law and are willing to do other things, then I don't think you'll be unable to find a job.

It sounds like you want to go to Georgetown, so go.  If I had ties to a school to the extent that I would be happiest there, I would probably make the same decision.  Just realize that you have reason to be more stressful at Georgetown, especially in the current economy.  I have no doubt that if you got into NYU as well, you will be a strong student at Georgetown and be fine.  But I still think you should be able to negotiate some money out of Georgetown since it is understood that they are not on the same footing as NYU.

I've seen them before.  That data is helpful if you are pretty sure of what region you want to work in.  It's important to realize though that in desirable markets, even the best regional schools (excepting the top ~16) will be trumped by the more national schools.  In an economy like this and considering the field of law, I would be wary of attending any regional schools and expecting to land the more desirable jobs.
