hello from the polar north...

yeah, we actually have snow and cold here this year - shocking after last year.  I'm taking legislation, patent law, an IP seminar, an independent indian/property law supervised writing, and a property litigation clinic where we're going to trial this spring (only four of us in the clinic too, so it's very fun.)  I'm also working 10-20 hours a week for an adjunct's law firm in DC, and where they pay a real wage, not work-study poverty wages ;).  Other than that, nothing much going on.  Family's been dealing with one flu after the other, and I'm on a health/food kick.  Kind of glad we're more than half-way done.  Kind of ready to move on to the next stage.

Wow, sorry to hear about your brother, VB... I took the younger son of a classmate on Saturday while she took her old boy to the ER with stomach pain -- fortunately, it turned out to be just a bug.

And thanks, peeps, for the kind words.  I never expected to see a healthy, 26 yr old (fairly recently married :( ) guy die so suddenly.  I was chatting with him in the elevator the day before... I feel so awful for his wife and family.

Well, back to my FIL final (thank the creator for 24 hr take-homes...)

Still have two finals and completely unmotivated...  It's unbelievably cold, I'm fighting a stomach thing, and a friend/classmate had a heart attack and died over the weekend... wish I could do the I Dream of Jeanie thing and make it Saturday (with all exams finished -- preferably with grades above median...)

Is anyone going to Equal Justice Works next week?

Me!  Staying at the venue hotel, but I won't be getting there until tomorrow.  I'll keep a lookout for you ;)

Sooooo...I really am not ready for school to start again  :-\

I'm a week and a half into it, and soooo not ready for it to continue :-\

Ugh, I'm sorry.  I saw a job posting just last week for a firm manager, but it was on the East Coast -- made me think of you, though ;)...

Eh, I don't think people really "sell out"... I think that a lot happens during the first year of law school, and people have a better idea of what practicing law actually means -- and some who never thought they'd want to join Big Law, decide they do, whether for financial or personal reasons.  My own reasons for not wanting to do Big Law have more to do with personal reasons than some philosophical save-the-world notions -- I found I like law more than I ever expected, and actually want to be able to practice it, whether in a small firm or as a solo.  I don't need to make a lot of money, and quality of life means way too much to me to spend 3-5 years in BigLaw hell.  But I'm pulling for my OCI-ing buds -- I'm just glad it's not me. ;)

Our OCI is going on right now in NYC... (Fortunately, I am not in NYC)

I started my fall clinic in early July, so I really won't have a break before classes start on the 24th.  That's okay, because the clinic is the best thing about law school thus far.

Wow blast from the past. Good to see both of you BL and PC. How are things?
Things are going pretty well. Doing some nice fed. gov't work this summer and trying to find a job for next year. I don't mean to sound like a depressed bears, but it's amazing how different this profession is today when compared to the time when we were all applying to schools 3 years ago.

I have to say, while I missed being with you all during the app. cycle, I'm really glad I waited a year.  Not that it'll be all that much better, but things appear to be looking up... however slightly...
