Transferring / Re: UMich to HYS?
« on: August 25, 2008, 10:44:04 PM »
If you do well enough at any of these schools to be able to transfer to another one, then you're basically set.  The sole valid reasons are: 1. personal (family) 2. academia (in which you would be Yale or bust.  even HLS's academic placement doesn't really justify a transfer if you're already at a T10).

Man, I am bored tonight.   :(

Nice to see that Melvin's back.  Of course, he might have never left, and I was rarely here, so it's somewhat of a wash.

I thought there were free supplements in the library.  And, wow, only $400 for books?  Great.

<-- peaked on first day of oci.  :-\

I don't know what "peaked" means in OCI terms, but I'm sorry to hear it, I think.

I like my school, so I'm not too worried.  My biggest worries are:

1. Freshman 15 -- I tend to gain weight when stressed, and I've already had to adjust my jean measurements.  I switched from straight leg to boot cut and I don't want to go all the way to relaxed fit.  Don't even get me started on cargo pants.  I'll probably play oompa loompa in order to discourage food abuse.

2. I won't like the material -- I worked through vault books about legal practice and litigation/transactional work, but I'm still scared that I won't like property, torts, contracts, and company.  If I won't like them, then that doesn't bode well for my ambitions.  Am I correct?  A few lawyers told me that you don't have to like LS in order to like legal practice.

3. Drama -- I hate drama.  I'm going to try to hang on the down-low for the first quarter until I understand the social scene.  Luckily, I have friends in the city from college, and they're generally willing to sip expensive German bocks while discussing Nietzsche.

mama and papa Cady and I are getting excited for our trip!

Yay! I'm excited for your trip, too!

I'm feebly trying to work on job stuff and it's making me want to go run and hide.

I also hear bad things about the pollution.

Are you trying to research firms?  If that's the case, I sympathize.  Everyone told me to get this mass-mailing/mail merge thing done now, before school starts and I'm busy, but it's. so. hard. to look at those websites.

2L job search / Re: Lowenstein Sandler, Roseland NJ

I'm almost 100% certain that I'll try to land a 1L job with them.  What should I emphasize in the cover letter?  Do they have any flagship practice areas?

1L job search / What Are 1L Jobs That PAY? (Besides Firms.)
« on: August 08, 2008, 08:17:56 AM »
Certain DC Organizations?  PI?  Judicial externships?  What are some jobs that will help pay the bills, since the last thing I'll need will be more loans.

Also, do I have to apply at Dec. 1st for these places?  What are the least and most competitive 1L jobs?

I'll be attending a "good" law school, if that matters to the naming.
