General Off-Topic Board / Re: House husbands: socially acceptable?
« on: April 16, 2008, 07:09:21 PM »
I'm not quite sure I understand the question. Does it mean "is it socially acceptable according to your standards" or "do you think it is socially acceptable by general standards"?

I've found that it really depends on whom you speak with/email as to your response time, and this has been the case for every school.  Karla Vargas, the director of financial aide, got back to me literally within 10 minutes (she must have been at her desk, of course), while one time I left a voicemail for someone else, and didn't get a call back for almost a week.

All that said, I did get a nice email confirming that they received my deposit and saved me a seat.  That saved me a phone call, at least.

I was straight rejected from BC.  Just goes to show that, barring a 4.0/180, almost everyone's cycle is to some degree unpredictable.

Those numbers are not borderline at all for Cornell.  My GPA has increased slightly since I applied, but when I did it was just .02 higher than yours.  I got in plus some decent scholarship money.  Don't give up hope!

Mine said the first deposit of $250 is due on April 15th.  I sent it in this morning.  The second deposit (I cannot remember the exact amount offhand) is due May 18th I think, right on my birthday.

The binder is pretty nice.

I was thinking the same until I saw Hughes.  I think I'd go mad in a place like that, honestly.  Reminded me too much of my freshman dorm.

How is everyone handling the housing situation?  I don't if I'll be able to get back to Ithaca to look at apartments, and it seems like a lot of the stuff on Craigslist is still of the summer sublet variety anyway.

I will be coming as well.

Karla Vargas, the head of financial aid at Cornell, said that scholarship awards take into account both need and merit.  However, the $$$ amounts do not take loans into account.
