I do not think the government should come and take my money and give it to someone else.  That is a form of stealing.  I am perfectly happy to help people on my own, and do it when I can, but I am not happy when someone forces me to do it.

Unless you're advocating anarchy, this is asinine.

Society doesn't exist unless a central organization claims some set of resources and allocates them for the common good.  We could have a government that gives you three personal soldiers because you made ten million dollars last year, but we could have a monkey that shits Twinkies, too...if only we'd try.

Why don't we try, my friends?

Anything other than the MacBook Air is NTCR for this thread.

Why get for $1100 what you can get for $1800?

I'm going to get a VAIO notebook, which is easy to carry around... and really cute

And ridiculously overpriced, too.  God bless Sony.

Irrespective of model, my recommendations for laptop purchasing:

1.) Whatever you buy, max out the RAM - it's a cheap investment (relatively speaking), but will keep it feeling speedy much longer than any processor upgrade.  If you buy a Mac, buy the extra RAM through Newegg.com or MacMall.com, as Apple's RAM costs 8x as much for no particularly good reason.

2.) Buy an external hard drive that is at least as large as your laptop's.  Back up at least once a week, more during exams/papers.

3.) Have at least two high quality flash drives, and never keep them on a keychain.

4.) Sacrifice screen size.  You're working on this thing.  Even if you're going to watch movies on it, you really have no need to be carrying around a 17" laptop for three years.

I'm likewise deferred.  I'm pretty much a go for Michigan at this point, so I'll likely just withdraw rather than worry about it.

Well, every time I complain about not hearing, I hear soon after.

Consider this a complaint that I haven't heard from Chicago!

Well, I guess if I get into NU, I won't be attending.  Why do law schools have conflicting ASDs?

It forces you to make a choice.  A terrible, awful choice.

I'm really kind of puzzled (although happy for the people who appear to have gotten in!) - I applied in September, and haven't heard a peep from UVa.
