Where should I go next fall? / anyone tried $$$ negotiation?
« on: February 04, 2005, 01:17:17 PM »
I was offered 45k at NU and would love to show this to GULC as a way to push them to offer me something similar.  Anyone tried this yet?  Any advice?

I just got a packet from them yesterday with administration type papers... this is the first like that I've gotten.  I bet there is one in there.

Acceptances / Re: In @ Columbia

congrats!!! is columbia one of your top choices?

Hmmm... I wouldn't say that exactly.  I hadn't really given it much consideration.  Now I am trying to learn more about the school to decide if it is or not.  I mean, given the rank it is definitely compelling.  And I like what I've read so far- but I've never been to NYC so I am slightly scared of that aspect.

Ha congrats! Do you know what day the letter is dated? I'm curious if Columbia has sent out another batch (hoping they have.)

Dated Jan. 28... my mail runs slow.

you think it is a mistake or what?

HAHA- I actually told my husband that I thought it was!

But I actually meant I'm confused about my options... I never thought Columbia as a REAL option.

Law School Applications / Re: FAFSA Question: Parents' info
« on: February 01, 2005, 07:40:46 PM »
I actually think that most of these law schools that require your parent's financial information will get this from another source (i.e., Need Access.org).  The FAFSA information is what qualifies you for federal loan money, and is not dependent upon your parental financial information, if you're going to a graduate program.

Louisville has nothing on Lextown!  I would prefer to go to Louisville for Law School but I love Lexington as a place to live.

Why would you prefer UL over UK?

Congrats, melissamw!

I also went to the GULC open house and was very impressed.  Upon returning, I found out that I've been offered a $20K renewable Presidential Merit Scholarship from GW.  The interim dean also hand wrote a note.  (I think the one on the acceptance letter was printed.)

Are you planning on attending the GW Preview Weekend?

I don't think so.  I visited the school in October and sat in on a class.  I was very impressed by the school.  But, I can't see myself turning down GULC for GWU...  I am having a hard enough time trying to decide if I should turn down Penn for GULC.

Are you planning on going?  Do you think you'll take the scholarship?

::raising hand::  It was excellent.  I *highly* recommend you go to the next one.  They put on a top-notch dog and pony show.  Plus, you get 3 free meals, a hat and a mug.

After that, I'm not so certain that Georgetown isn't my top choice now.

Me too!  I was very impressed by the facilities, the students, the faculty!!  I am still slightly concerned by employment numbers, but that is just based on the rep on here and xoxo.
