Law School Admissions / Email from northwestern
« on: November 02, 2004, 12:07:17 PM »
Got this from NU today:

Dear Melissa:

Thank you for submitting your application to the JD Program at Northwestern
University School of Law.  Beginning approximately 72 hours from the date
of this e-mail, you will be able to obtain the most up-to-date information
about the status of your application at the URL below.  If you attempt to
consult this service in less than 72 hours, you will most likely receive an
error message indicating that your record does not exist.

You will be prompted to provide your applicant ID number which is *****.
Please take a moment to review the accuracy of your name and contact
information as it appears in our system. If any of your personal
information is incorrect or incomplete, you will have the opportunity to
make the necessary corrections on the status checker.

Please note that your application status may be "incomplete" for several
weeks yet. It can take up to 4 weeks for our office to receive and process
your LSDAS report; your application status will remain incomplete during
this period. If your status continues to be incomplete for more than 4
weeks from today, please contact the admissions office to determine what is
missing from your file.

Thank you again for your interest in Northwestern Law.

They still haven't requested my LSDAS report- but hopefully they will soon; they've taken the longest so far to request it.

General Off-Topic Board / Question for those who live in a city...
« on: October 29, 2004, 07:15:32 PM »
Do you all have a car?  My husband and I are trying to decide whether we should keep my car when we move or sell it.  I am all about selling it and relying on public transportation for many reasons- most of which is financial.  But, we have one big concern- how do you all carry your groceries home?!?  I know, this sounds trivial, but I know that we go about everyother week and have too many bags to carry on public transportation.  Any creative ideas??

Also, what are your general thoughts on this subject?

Law School Admissions / Northwestern Vent

Okay, after a month of hearing nothing, I called...  I asked about my off-campus interview and when I would receive the names.  She said I should have already heard something and that she would be sure someone emailed me.  Then I asked about my report request... this is where it gets frustrating.  She said they don't request the report until they receive the hard copy.  BUT, they have opted not to have the paper copy sent until the report is requested (according to LSACD).  I told her this and she said something like, well we'll make sure it's requested....  how many people are in the same shoes as me?!?  Did anyone else transmit online and have their report requested yet?

Law School Admissions / GWU and GULC visits
« on: October 14, 2004, 06:17:45 AM »
I visited both GWU and GULC the first part of this week.  Just wanted to report in and let you all know what I think!

Did a self-guided tour.  The campus is in a fairly neat part of town and the law school is on GWU's campus.  My husband is applying to a legislative affairs program and their building (which is where crossfire is filmed), is right across the street.  The buildings were all very nice, they all seemed to be fairly new or at least renovated!  The students were slightly younger than I expected, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.  I met with an admissions counselor and there really wasn't anything pressing I needed to hear, but he did give me some info.  For example, we talked about expected apps and he didn't really indicate that he thought they would go up, etc.  He did say that they don't look at apps until Dec. 1, regardless when it was completed.

I sat in on a class (criminal law) and LOVED it!  I was very impressed by the quality of the teaching.  I had actually met a girl a couple days earlier who is a 1L there and she said that was what sold her on the school, was the teachers.

GULC-  I had a meeting with a professor who heads up the domestic violence clinic (something I am interested in doing).  I didn't get to sit in on a class, though I wish I had set that up.  However, I loved the professor.  She was so helpful and we just seemed to click on so many issues.  If the other professors are like her, then it would be a great place.  The building I saw was nice- it is separate from Gtown's campus, kinda out of the way.  But, it is near the capitol.

That's about all I can think of now... let me know if you have any questions.

Law School Admissions / Questions to ask...
« on: October 07, 2004, 02:50:22 PM »
I am trying to think of questions to ask admissions offices at potential schools.  I am visiting GWU and GULC on Monday and Tuesday.  I have a couple of generic questions, didn't know if you all had thought of any good ones.  Please share  :-*
