Incoming 1Ls / Re: True Costs...

Buy the books on eBay, seriously.  I got a $130 book for $40 in perfect condition, and it was the correct edition.

They won't all be there, but you can make a serious dent in the total.  For 5 classes I ended up paying $250 this semester.

Chemerinsky's book runs 1200 pages. I was hoping for something a little more concise. I was also hoping to get some canned briefs. Any more suggestions?

Sorry, I haven't taken Con Law yet so this is all I have to go on.  I also heard the E&E was not so helpful.

Thanks for all the great advice!  I replied earlier but for some reason I can't see my reply in this thread. although it shows up in my posting history.

Without seeing my grades yet, it's hard to say.  I feel like all semester in Contracts I was living unit to unit, finally understanding a unit when it was all over, just in time to start a new one.  But when I began my outline (in a panic), I realized that it was all there, if a little bit dusty.  So I guess it sort of clicked without me realizing it.  (Or perhaps settled is a better word?)

I also have a voluminous list of things I will be doing differently next semester, so maybe my study skills clicked toward the end.  ;)

Thanks for all of your opinions!  My resume doesn't have anything overtly political that would be relevant to an employer, so at this point it can all be safely removed.  The job I am considering applying to is not issue specific since I agree that advertising your stance on an issue like abortion on your resume shows a lack of judgment.  I am considering working for a Congressional Republican, which I worry about in this political climate.

Any strings attached to the scholarships?

My instinct is Iowa. A full ride in this economy is tough to turn down.

Hi everyone -

I haven't posted much for awhile, and apologies if this has been addressed but I have been living under the 1L rock for awhile.  My question is about summer jobs that indicate political orientation.  Do you think it is a bad idea to take a job that clearly indicates your political leanings?  How much of an issue do you think that would be to 2L summer employers?  I know it can be hard to get summer jobs as a 1L under the best of circumstances and I'm at a T2.  Does anyone have any experience in this area, or know of anyone who has experience?

Bored over winter break bump.

I have heard that Chemerinsky's Con Law book is best, and that the E&E for property is good.  This is based from advice from 2Ls at my school.  Since I am taking those classes this spring I can't speak from personal experience.

I used an older E&E for Torts and Ks and it was fine.  The Crim one wasn't especially helpful but it had nothing to do with which edition it was.  I just didn't find it especially useful for the way my professor set up the course.
