Choosing the Right Law School / Still waiting on Columbia...
« on: May 04, 2005, 06:49:21 PM »
I called the admisssions office today, and they said they still hadn't made a decision on my application.  I can't believe we're well into May and they're still not done looking at all the applications.  The person on the phone said "maybe next week?" in a rather meek voice, and made it sound like a question when asked for an estimate of wait time remaining.  Then the USPS will take their time getting me the letter.

Anybody want to take the over on waiting till Memorial Day?

Received decision via email, responsed as advised (direct reply to email).

I've now been WLed at NYU, Michigan, Penn, and Duke...though my LSAT is spectacular, I felt that I my solid soft factors, essay, and great recommendations could push me in somewhere.

As of now I'm a future Longhorn, but it's frustrating being so close yet so far.  There must have really been record numbers of applicants this year, or at least that's what I'm telling myself for consolation when I see people with numbers just like me or even lower apply earlier and get in.

Received manilla envelope in mail today.  Will mail letter stating I want in tomorrow.  Sucks to be so close yet so far.  Applying late killed me.

So we're into April and I still have eight pending files, all of which went complete over a month ago if not more.  The schools pending are the higest ranked that I've applied to (Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, NYU, Chicago, Michigan, Penn).

Should I assume I'm going to be rejected these schools?
Will I even hear from them?
Is it common for acceptances to come in April?

I have deposits due on April 15th, and I'm sure most of you do as well.  Where do I stand?

Anyone in the same boat as me?

They sent the letter to my permanent address, and it arrived today.  So did I for that matter, since I flew in for the long weekend.

The letter said there were 30 applicants for each spot in the enterring class.  That puts their acceptance rate at under 4%...that can't be right, can it?

Sure, it's my first rejection, and it's disappointing.  But there's always tomorrow, and more schools to hear from  ;D

At this point, UT is probably still ahead.  Unless I get more money from UofH, I'm going to withdraw soon...the only reason I haven't yet is that the prospect of living at home and going to law school is mildly intriguing.
