Personal Statement / PS and DS readers, please.
« on: October 28, 2007, 09:06:55 PM »
I've gotten some great advice from people on here regarding my essays.  I'd like to get some more opinions on the current incarnations of them.  I am more than willing to read and comment on yours in return.

Law School Applications / Gifts for recommenders?
« on: October 25, 2007, 04:33:24 PM »
What are you buying your LOR writers, if anything?  Any opinions on whether this is appropriate or not and what the proper gift-giving protocol is?  Both of my writers are women in their 30s to 40s (I'm bad at gauging these things).  I'd like to show my gratitude with something, but it's difficult to shop for people you know mostly on a professional/academic level.

In a blatant ripoff of That Other Forum Roll Call Post..

Anyone here driving or flying in from out of town?  What day/s will you be attending?  Will you be wearing something that needs to be dry cleaned?

3.84 but LSAC will probably turn it into a 3.8.  169 on the September 07 test.

Two-parter, if you please.

1.  Any opinions on these schools for reaches (super-reaches?!):

Berkeley
Penn
Stanford
Columbia
Chicago

... these for likelies

Duke
UCLA
Texas

And these for "safeties":

Washington
Davis
Hastings
BU

I'm Filipina, which is evidently URM status, and have a pretty good - dare I say, insightful - DS about being mixed.  My PS has gone through several iterations and the current version is pretty good - not earth shattering, but probably just unique enough to get someone's attention.  My extracurriculars are pretty typical; see LSN for details.

2.  With the above schools in mind as my targets, would retaking in December be a good idea?  I took the September test with around 2 hours of sleep, and neglected to bring a snack (and I ate breakfast at 6am, so by the time the actual test started I was starving).   My lowest practice test was 167; the rest were all 172-179.  I'm not super devastated about my score, but I'm pretty sure I could do at least a couple points better.  Are those points worth it?

Because I said so.

Since as of right now the emails (evidently) haven't gone out, if you're one of the first people to claim a score in this thread, please provide a reasonable screen shot.   Please?  :-*

Good luck, all of youse!

THE FIRST SCORE FROM AN LSD REGULAR HAS NOW BEEN POSTED IN THIS THREAD.  On page 6 saradsun reported her score.

Click here for a screenshot of the scale.  -10 for 170.

Studying for the LSAT / Trolls

..are here to help shape us all into hard-nosed, cynical, fact-questioning attorneys with knitted brows and constantly pointing fingers.  Let us pause to thank them for their service and tip our headgear in their direction.

Studying for the LSAT / How long before the test is disclosed?
« on: October 18, 2007, 06:24:41 PM »
How long before the entire contents of the test are available?

I'm eager to compare the post-mortem answers with the real ones - maybe it will drum some sense into the next round of test takers.  :)

Might as well start now.. here's a place for all us 9/07 LSAT takers to convene, kvetch, chatter, and trade links in an effort to keep ourselves diverted for the next eighteen to twenty(!) days.

Kicking it off with a beatboxing flautist:

Studying for the LSAT / Uh oh.
« on: September 26, 2007, 10:08:58 AM »
Last night I felt a little "weirdness" in my throat..

this morning I woke up and it was all-out itchiness, plus my nose is getting runny and sniffly.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'm pretty sure this will develop into cholera by Saturday.   :-\

Studying for the LSAT / Preptest 19 (June 1996) Reading comp
« on: September 13, 2007, 04:39:48 PM »
Is this section unusually difficult, or am I just off my game today?

To jog your memory, this test had these four RC passages:

1. Crime novels of PD James
2. Native American graves + common law
3. Latitudinal gradient of number of species
4. British abolitionism

I had to use the entire 35 minutes for this one, PLUS I got three wrong.
