« on: December 28, 2007, 02:26:10 PM »
i'm 21 and have never filed a tax return in my life, though i've been working (part-time, measly) jobs since i was 18.  how much is this going to @#!* me up in the fin.aid process?

i've also never filed a FAFSA because my parents just paid for my UG out of pocket. help?

Law School Applications / NYU - too late?
« on: December 23, 2007, 06:30:10 PM »
See subject.  169/3.84.  I've been feeling brass ballsy lately and am starting to regret not applying to NYU, where people with my numbers seem to be getting in, though they applied much earlier.  Would it be a waste of money at this point?

EDIT:

In the interest of not making this a total self-serving gloatfest: other Cal applicants might be interested to know that people are getting accepted today via email.  :D  Also, as noted in the thread, I got my complete notice on Monday Tuesday, and my numbers are not auto-admit for Boalt, so this might be a sign that they're trying to push a bunch of acceptances out the door before the 25th.

Law School Applications / So, uh, what does this mean?
« on: December 07, 2007, 04:25:25 PM »
Many of you know due to my posting it everywhere on the Internet accompanied by much wailing and ululation that I got waitlisted at Duke yesterday.  The email was verifiably from Bill Hoye at Duke.

Buuuut today - yes, the DAY AFTER they informed me of being on the waitlist - they sent me a link to the status checker, which tells me this, emphasis mine:

Here is the most current information about your application to Duke Law School (updated on Dec 07, 2007):

Your application was complete on Nov 30, 2007 and is and under review. A decision has not yet been made.

Come again?

Law School Applications / Obnoxious, petty LSAC problem
« on: November 24, 2007, 10:38:25 AM »
I'm trying to submit an application, but every time I attach my PS and preview it there's an annoying formatting problem with the .pdf conversion: the last line in my header gets converted from right alignment to left alignment. (My header has 3 lines: my name, lsac # and the title of the document).

I suppose the easiest solution would be to just switch to right alignment.  But WHY SHOULD I?  WHY, LSAC, WHY?  HAVEN'T YOU TAKEN ENOUGH FROM ME ALREADY?!

Law School Applications / Let's rate the applications themselves.
« on: November 01, 2007, 01:24:33 AM »

UCLA: 5/10.  Overambitious, overstays its welcome; a bloated sty obscuring the law school vision.  Some points awarded for exhaustiveness of racial identification section; many lost for minute nosiness about parents' income.  What is this, the FAFSA?

Chicago:  9/10.  Nearly flawless. Elegant and understated.  Soft floral notes; hints of frangipani and wood mites.  Two pages of concision and grace before this one bows out with the lingering kiss of an open-ended personal statement prompt.

Columbia:  6/10.  Good lines and symmetry, but stumbles when asking of one's parents.  Nose of coriander and Brooks Brothers.
