I wish there was a national deadline that all law schools had, like UG, when everything was due May 1.

Agreed. The different deadlines make it confusing. One more thing for us to keep track of.

Speaking of confusing deadlines...

Does anyone know which t14s, if any, have deposit deadlines today? I don't have any paperwork with me right now, and Im not yet ready to turn down a school by default.

You already sent your match?  Boy, do I feel tardy, even truant.

Yeah, I received the scholarship I'm trying to match in February.

I believe, the grant is need based.  It's not automatically renewable.  In fact, if you work a firm job your 1L summer, you can pretty much kiss that sucker goodbye.  (BTW.  I fully support this policy.)

I'm not positive, but I think that out of state grants and in state grants might differ by the maximum amount that they give out.  If that actually is the case, then you'd likely get the other grant amount in subsequent years if you didn't earn enough to get your grant striped outright.  But w/ the different between in state and out of state tuition narrowing, I'm not sure how much the difference from one yr to the next might be.

Thanks for the response; that makes perfect sense.

OK, so now I'm thoroughly confused  ???

I used the CalNet ID to access my award on BEAR facts. My grant differs from the scholarship I tried to match. Was my match rejected, or have they not processd it yet? Also, the award is strictly for the 2008-2009 school year. Would my award be reduced in subsequent years as I become a California resident?

I'm calling the f/a office tomorrow for sure.

Any thoughts, Shad?

I've got the letter here:

"The fin. aid offer letter must show the cost of attendance at the school as well as the amounts of all scholarships, grants, fellowships and tuition waivers."

Does your UVA letter show the coa of attendance? If not, maybe submit two documents one for the scholarship, the other for the coa. I dont know. I'm pretty sure they don't need to see your total offer, i.e., loans.

Bump.

So has anyone received (or heard when well receive) scholarship/financial aid offers? I received my CalNet ID today, but I haven't had a chance to login and see if an award has been made...

It's supposed to be available on April 1st.  I might stay up until midnight.

I'm a little confused by the wording of the letter.  What needs to be submitted by April 1st?  "No later than" meaning what?

Also, I have a copy of my UVa scholarship but they haven't sent me the entire FinAid package.  Do I need to wait until the entire package gets there to fax it to Boalt?

I haven't actually seen the letter - my family told me it came in the mail today.

"You are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as awards will be made on a rolling basis.  Initial decisions will be made no later than Tuesday, April 1st.  Priority will be given to applicants who submit all materials before Wednesday, April 30th."

I can't understand what the "initial" decision refers to.  Is that their end of the FinAid?

I just asked the same thing in my edited post...

Edit: I remember being confused by the dates on the letter in the initial acceptance folder (which I do have with me). What does "initial decisions will be made not later than Tuesday, April 1st" mean? Is it a typo that should say no earlier than April 1st?

Our first day of non-internet classes. Blurg.

I want someone in Dean Levmore's Torts class to bring it up.

We still had internet in Room II, but the signal was worse.

Town Hall Meeting with Levmore during lunch next Monday to discuss Internet - should be fun.

Make sure to tell him that even the 0Ls are upset about it  :P

Thanks, I appreciate the response.

You guys/gals are great - the school should be paying you (or at least offering you internet access).

Anyone want to give me a quick run-down on the differences between law review articles, notes, and comments? Is it simply a matter of length? (I have a reason for asking other than mere curiosity - not that I have better things to worry about on a Saturday night...)
