Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / Re: Cooley jokes: yay or nay?
« on: January 30, 2008, 07:30:31 PM »
Tell the jokes if you want, but give me a break with some of the criticism.  We live in a capitalist society, and some people who work for Cooley have the job of marketing the school and recruiting students.  Maybe they aren't doing the best job, but it's pretty silly to fault them for trying.

Why aren't you telling jokes about the tobacco companies?  What they are selling is worse.  Are all the people who smoke too stupid to know better?  People go to Cooley because they want to.

Maybe I'll hit up the tobacco company message board and tell some jokes.  This is a Law School discussion board.  Let's understand the scope of this conversation and why it is relevant here.  I'm sure if someone started telling jokes about Cooley on a tobacco company message board people would be confounded.  People go to Cooley because they don't know what they're doing or because they can't go anywhere else.

All people go there for that reason?  Don't you think it's a bit ridiculous to say that?  Have you ever met a Cooley student or graduate?  Believe me, I think some of the things that school does are stupid, but so are some of the assumptions people make about their students.

I agree, it's a ridiculous thing to say.  I know one person who goes there; she is passionate to say the least.  She went there because she is convicted about becoming a lawyer and couldn't get in anywhere else.  I don't wish to take away from the individuals who attend Cooley...they're certainly more passionate about the profession than I am.

Any school that intentionally misleads candidates with a manipulated and obviously biased ranking system does not deserve any mercy.  Schools ranked worse than Cooley don't flagrantly prey on the ignorance of incoming law students.  It's despicable, and purely motivated by monetary incentive, not the well being of their incoming class.

Law School Admissions / Re: Paralegal vs. Lawyer
« on: January 22, 2008, 07:52:25 AM »
Do what you gotta do.  If you've got the balls to hang in there and become a successful attorney, make it happen...the cost-benefit nonsense only applies to people who don't step it up in law school and finish top 30%.  If you think you're capable, then make the leap.

Not so much. If you have a family, they will suffer & perhaps even financially if you have insufficient savings. Additionally, if you invest the $100k + the additional money you earn in 3yrs, you could do quite well.

In fact, pursing law purely for money is idiotic - go start a business because if you're smart enough to graduate top 30% you're smart enough to start a successful business.

Where did anyone mention pursuing law purely for money?  I thought this was a query about whether or not it makes sense to pursue being an attorney vs. becoming a paralegal.  Nobody can make this decision for anyone else.  I merely pointed out that debt isn't so much an issue if you can step it up in law school.

This "starting a business" thing was so far out there and aside from anything relevant.  Please focus next time.

Most decent looking southern girls these days have replaced their refined southern accents with a mish-mash of britney-the hills-valley girl accents. It's horrible, and I fear it has spread across the entire country.

TITCR...I refer to these girls as "clone-bots"

Beware of furry boots and enormous sunglasses.

Unbelievable...
I didn't expect this kind of treatment. I thought this was a legitimate question in the "Where Should I go next fall" forum. "Douchery," "Hate Everyone on this thread," what kind of absurdity is this?

Also, I didn't know that my first post ever on LSD would create such an off-topic argument.
Whatever the case, I'm having second thoughts about consulting this network.
It would be nice if I could get some honest advice(like the few that posted real replies) to help me out with this process. After all, we are all human...and should try to help each other even if it involves the prestige and money that comes out of law school.
Best,

Lol bye.

You should apply to Vandy...because it may or may not suit you and it may or may not be at t20

I imagine you actually laughing out loud at this comment and have come to the conclusion that you are supremely evil.

OP~ I'm sorry that I cannot offer any reputable advice on this subject.  I would say you are a very unlikely admit at a T14, but have a chance at schools outside.  I heard good things about Minnesota.  ;D  Good Luck!
