snail mail...and whats sad is just got accepted to the MA portion of the dual degree there :-\

Lo siento.

Waitlisted at Duke.  From what I understand, this sort of stuff is just a pit stop on the road to rejection, no?

I think Duke tends to waitlist a lot of people but hang in there.  Show interest.

Okay, I think I just garnered the energy to continue campaigning for myself.  Thanks for the encouragement t.L.

It's a crapshoot.  Sometimes they'll call you off the waitlist.  Sometimes, no.  Sometimes if you campaign heavily for yourself if makes a difference, but then again sometimes it doesn't.  They use the waitlist to fill the gaps.  So if they are looking at their incoming class and decide "we need more minorities" they'll take a minority off, or if they look and say "we need someone with a high GPA", they'll take a high GPAer.  Basically yeah it sucks, it's purgatory.  I'm there right now with BC.

That's what I thought.  I'm not quite sure that I have the energy to begin campaigning for  myself again but we'll see what happens.  Good luck with BC. Love your sig, nintendo games make everything better

Minority Topics / Re: Robert Downey Plays Black Man In Movie

Not offensive to me.  Don't really know anything about the movie but if his character is supposed to be black, why didn't they get a black actor to play it?

If only demandsatisfaction really demanded satisfaction in her choice of hottest LOST character... come on - Juliette? Really? REALLY??? LAME!

KATE = HOTTEST FEMALE ON LOST

This coming from the girl who picks TINA as her L Word character of choice?

We need to have a serious talk about your taste in women.

hahaha that's really funny. Although my friends make fun of me because I once said Tina was my favorite too (way back in the day when I was still stuck in straightville) They all just said "amateur." And they were right. Shane is now my fav...

Shane? How cliche is that?! Shane is a huge skank!

YES - THE WOMEN ARE FINALLY TAKING OVER THIS THREAD!

Back on topic - Tina is hot, feminine, loyal, sweet, nice, caring - all the things I love in a woman :)

I'll second that statement.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: WUSTL or Tulane?
« on: March 10, 2008, 10:57:33 PM »
I want to thank everyone for their comments thus far.  My negotiation letter at WUSTL is with the scholarship committee so hopefully I will get an increase.  Otherwise, I'm not really sure if it's worth it to come out that much more in debt.  Does anyone know the likelihood of taking a 10-15K per year scholarship at WUSTL to say, 30k?  What's the most that they would up it?

Who do you address one of those negotiation letters to? I think I'm gonna have to write one of those and well, "Dear Financial Aid Office" sounds kinda weird.

So no consensus on this then...

I'm just really afraid of not getting that high paying job out of UT and getting saddled with debt whereas if this were to happen coming out of WUSTL, the debt would be minimal.  Also worried about UT raising tuition.

I think this is correct. Law schoool outside the T14 is a gamble. If you can avoid having any debt and still go to a T25 school, I would take it.

Your position assumes he is going to have the grades to obtain a decent paying summer gigs, otherwise he will still take out significant amounts of money for living expenses.  If you make that assumption, he has beat the game and will get a decent paying firm job after graduation, which makes the concern regarding debt:income moot.

I see your point. I guess I felt that living expenses will have to paid no matter where OP goes to law school and that the real debt issue comes into play with respect to massive tuition loans. If OP were to miss BigLaw at both WUSTL and Texas, I think he would feel a lot better about having paid for living expenses and gotten a free education than he would if he paid for living expenses and also had to be on the hook for $$$ in tuition loans.

I will have to pay living expenses at either school so I'm praying to be able to make the grades to get summer jobs that will take care of that.  Anyway, I've convinced myself that there is no good reason to remain in Texas, at least not one worth that much debt, I already have enough from undergrad.  Any big city with a decent legal market will do and if I'm lucky enough to get back to TX, that's fine too.  I guess this means I'm leaning towards WashU.  Thanks for your input everyone.

Applied ED. Recieved acceptance email today.

Wow! How early was that "early decision"??  U of H can be so annoying sometimes.  I applied regular decision so I'll probably be hearing from them in a couple of months.
