Job Search / Re: Substantive work after 1L?
« on: May 16, 2007, 08:44:19 AM »
Thanks for all of your input.  What does one have to do to get these jobs.  I'll be attending a lower tiered school.  Will I have to finish in the top 25 to get a summer job? or  are are most 1Ls able to get them provided they apply to enough places.  Is this done through the schools? or should I try to send out resume's to every firm/judge/agency in North Carolina (most likely attending Campbell or NCCU)?

Job Search / Substantive work after 1L?

0L here, I've got a question about employment after 1L.  From what I've been reading here it seems like one is supposed to find employment in a legal environment during the summer between 1L and 2L.  Do most people get an internship that pays good money doing paralegal type work, or do people end up doing courier/gopher type jobs.  I have a job (legal secretary/jack of all trades) right now at a pretty decent firm, should I try and talk them into letting me come back during the summer, or should this only be a fall-back?

In the waitlist letter I received the school suggested that I could send an additional LOR (which I did).  They also recommended sending my transcript showing that I graduated from my undergrad.  My grades dropped off a little during my final semester (I figured the schools already had the grades they were going to consider).  Will this hurt me or will they cut me a break from slacking off a little in my final semester?  (I made around a 3.1 I think)

Any opinion on whether I should contact my undergrad school about sending the transcript now vs. waiting a little longer?

Law School Admissions / Re: UNC or IUB- HELP!

When is the seat deposit due at UNC?

I will most likely be attending Campbell (admitted).  In order to gain admission, an interview is required.  Lately I've been somewhat concerned about what my employment opportunities will be in relation to Campbell's outrageous (26.4K) tuition.  I wrote the professor that interviewed me, expressing that I had some questions about the law program.  He said he would be calling me from home this coming week.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should handle the phone call/what I should ask about?

I wrote the Dean of Admissions requesting some grant/scholarship money.  Any ideas on how to address this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I"m not sure -- maybe 163/3.3?  This was a couple of cycles ago, with my class.

I think now though hasn't an email gone out pretty much saying, if you haevn't heard, your chances are .0003%?
Sorry, that's probably the truth of it though.

Not sure if that was directed at me, but I got the email and was waitlisted like a week later.  Any body know how deep UNC goes on their waitlist?

I think everyone agrees that it's his decision unless other posters offer to pay the tuition.

So OP should feel free to PM me and I'll tell him how I know about the legal community in the state.

I am currently accepting grant offers from LSD members...

What does "OP" mean?
