2L job search / Callback prep: researching a practice area
« on: September 21, 2008, 02:12:30 PM »
Does anyone know of a good website to research different practice areas?  I told the screening interviewers at a firm that gave me a callback that I want to work for them because of their commercial real estate practice (true).  I'd like to be able to at least pretend to know a little bit about this type of practice; I haven't been able to find any blogs etc on the topic.

Thanks for your help.

General Board / Has anyone used the online bluebook?
« on: August 09, 2008, 06:42:31 PM »
I think the subscription is around $25 a year.  I hate flipping through the bluebook for law review, and can never find what I'm looking for.  While it should have the same content, this seems like it may be more user friendly.  Anybody have any experience with it?

2L job search / North Carolina Firms
« on: August 06, 2008, 01:15:29 AM »
Does anybody have any experience with, or knowledge of any of the larger firms in North Carolina (e.g. Smith Moore, Poyner, Womble, etc.)?  OCI is fast approaching and I could use some information as to which are most desirable/which to stay away from.  Thanks.

1L job search / Substantive work after 1L?
« on: May 15, 2007, 09:14:19 PM »
0L here, I've got a question about employment after 1L.  From what I've been reading here it seems like one is supposed to find employment in a legal environment during the summer between 1L and 2L.  Do most people get an internship that pays good money doing paralegal type work, or do people end up doing courier/gopher type jobs.  I have a job (legal secretary/jack of all trades) right now at a pretty decent firm, should I try and talk them into letting me come back during the summer, or should this only be a fall-back?

I will most likely be attending Campbell (admitted).  In order to gain admission, an interview is required.  Lately I've been somewhat concerned about what my employment opportunities will be in relation to Campbell's outrageous (26.4K) tuition.  I wrote the professor that interviewed me, expressing that I had some questions about the law program.  He said he would be calling me from home this coming week.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should handle the phone call/what I should ask about?

I wrote the Dean of Admissions requesting some grant/scholarship money.  Any ideas on how to address this?

Any help would be much appreciated.
