General Off-Topic Board / Re: California Gay Marriage

(Edit)
I recognize that in this case the reason why the law isn't constitutional was be cause it discriminated.  I think it's important to point out that other laws can discriminate against the minority without violating the constitution.
Example: Laws against plural and underage marriage.

bingo.

what other minority groups do we discriminate against? murderers and rapists?

as far as acceptance goes, individual approval of gay marriage trends with their proximity to gays. watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnTwrnKb61Q

none of this will even be an issue for our children's generation.

isn't this why the courts exist? to protect the minority against will the majority? they (including what, two conservatives?) found the initiative to be discriminatory. they'd be right (imho).

You can quibble about marital rights, but don't be so ignorant to assume that the way you choose to behave sexually is comparable to your natural ethnicity.

the fallacy of your argument rests in your assumption that homosexuality is a choice-- i think the preponderance of evidence suggests otherwise. and if it's not a choice, then it IS comparable to natural ethnicity and banning same-sex marriage is discriminatory.

What if a person believes in a religion that teaches its' members that slavery is justified?  If you insult those beliefs then you are basically insulting their religion.  You are basically saying that your moral foundation is superior to theirs.

I didn't say homosexuality wiring is a choice, I said that their behavior is a choice.  Heteros and Homosexuals all choose whether or not to have sex.  Also, I didn't tell you what my moral foundation is.  My point is that educating people about your beliefs is possible without ridiculing theirs.   Calling someone a bigot because of the way they've been raised is only justified if they are actively persecuting someone.  Passively believing that homosexuality is a trial rather than a blessing may make you out of touch, but that doesn't make you a bad person.

i wasn't ridiculing anyone, just pointing out a ridiculous argument.

just curious, what was said about wyoming? (you can PM this to me if you want).

as for your situation, i'm with the others, i think you should bite the bullet and go to NM. they've really been on the rise in recent years and i think the crime issue is way overplayed. besides, do well and you can always transfer-- and you won't have to lose a year...
