Incoming 1Ls / Re: Just bought E&E, now what do I do?
« on: March 14, 2008, 02:04:59 PM »
I agree with those who say don't read it. Listen to what your prof has to say because ultimately it is the prof who is grading you. My civ pro prof recommended E&E but in other classes, it wasn't helpful. Basically, follow what your prof says. If he/she has a certain framework, learn it and use it. Also, I haven't had a class yet that did everything in the first year subject, so don't waste your time doing/learning things you aren't going to need to know anyway. There's plenty of things you will need to learn. Concentrate on them. Good luck

I think the decision to work is very individualized. I'm a 1L, worked 20 hr/wk and commuted 2 hr/day back and forth to class and still managed to finish top 5% of my class plus maintained a life outside of studying and working all the time. It just depends on your commitment level and how bad you want it

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Re: Penn State

I would suggest calling the admissions office and asking. At UP, the new building is slated to be open in the spring, and the dean just yesterday in a meeting with students said even more students were going to be admitted next year than this year. So there's a chance that there is room for you.

I'm starting at UP campus in the fall. I did my undergrad at PSU and looking forward to continuing.

Incoming 1Ls / Re: Hofstra University Class of 2010

My decision came down to Hofstra or Penn State Dickinson and finally I decided on Dickinson. Was a very tough choice turning down $30G per year in scholarships. Good luck to those who choose Hofstra though.

I'm also going to Dickinson in the fall (UP campus) and am curious if anyone has had success negotiating a better scholarship. I inquired right after getting my letter and was told to wait to May to see if any additional funds become available.
