Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / BC vs. BU, rank and reputation
« on: June 05, 2007, 12:58:50 AM »
Everywhere I look BU seems to rank higher than BC - USNWR, Leiter - especially in terms of faculty quality. (Even on The Princeton Review...although we seem to have come to a consensus that TPR isn't especially valuable in terms of rankings.) However, when BU 2Ls take questions or BC students defend their school, they both seem to agree that BC places better in the Boston market. (Is this just the Boston market or across the board?) Are either of these schools far superior than the other in any major way? Does it just come down to campus location and atmosphere? BC has a campus outside of the city, BU is in the city.

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: GULC vs. UVA?

also, since UVA is a top 10 law school, even though it's Charlottesville, it still attracts lots of guest speakers from all over the world, all the time. I remember in my fourth year when the former Iranian president spoke at the Rotunda. we've had gubernatorial debates, famous authors - Malcolm Gladwell and Jonathan Safran Foer came my third year - at our Festival of the Book, and famous film directors, producers and actors. ok, this is veering off from the academic, but you could check out calendars and see what types of speakers or guest lecturers will be coming in 2007-2008, or who's come this past year. that said, if you really want an international environment, Georgetown is it - though in terms of International Law, GULC is #3 and UVA is #10, still pretty good. either way, you said that so far, you're interested in corporate and big law. in that case, I would say stick to UVA. UVA is also very well known for its Darden School of Business (US News ranks it at #12, Gtown is #25) and should have some interesting lectures and guests that law students can take advantage of.

don't know how helpful my advice is...but I went to UVA undergrad and loved it. so much. I mean, I wasn't into the preppy scene - which some say dominates the campus - but seriously, Charlottesville is pretty cool. it seems small until you live there. there's tons going on. especially music-wise, aka john paul jones arena, downtown mall, satellite ballroom, etc.. (I guess I agree that with either school it doesn't seem like you could go wrong, you should decide where you would be most happy living.) and it's beautiful - the city and the mountains and vineyards around it. I'm applying to schools this fall and georgetown is an option - my grandfather and cousin went to the school of foreign service and law school, my uncle was a surgeon there - but it is a little too big, at least for me. (of course there's a lot of great things about gtown - for all you gtown lovers, I know.)

Choosing the Right Law School / Princeton Review

Hey, I was wondering how many of you use The Princeton Review in your law school research? I mean, is it worth looking at, I feel like the information hasn't changed in the past two years...but they have some interesting ranking categories.
