Your revolution is over.  Condolences. The bums lost.  My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir.  The bums will always lose.  Do you hear me!

The bums will always lose!

General Board / Re: Class rank question (taking into account summer grades?)
« on: September 24, 2008, 10:28:09 PM »
I was in a similar situation, on my resume I have:

GPA: X.XXX   Rank XX/XXX (GPA increased from X.XXX to X.XXX since last ranking)

you could leave the rank off, but with you having a decent rank its not worth the risk of some employers thinking you have a lower rank

2L job search / Re: How quickly do OCI rejections come in?
« on: September 09, 2008, 10:30:36 PM »
if you are not asked to come in for a callback do firms usually send a letter or an email?  i had a bunch 2 weeks ago and have not heard anything...i just assumed ding...

Most of my dings were by letter; got a few emails.

Almost all of my callbacks were by phone (with a follow up email); got one by email alone and one by letter alone.

thanks, so it sounds like i should hear something one way or the other

General Board / Re: OCI = disheartening

Is it unusual to get 10 OCI interviews and no callbacks (yet)? I'm top ~15 percent at a tier two. From what I hear, ~5 percent get callbacks. I feel like I'm interviewing well for what it's worth. It's really depressing not to get a callback though.

I am in a very similar situation, 15% at a t2, a bunch of screening interviews and no call-backs.  I am a decent interviewer, I get nervous but I handle myself fairly well.  I took advantage of my school's mock interview progrma and received positive feedback re my interview skills.  Any suggestions for what the next move should be?  I have sent out about 60 direct writes to a wide range of large to medium sized firms in my market and havent heard much other than a few rejection letters from the larger firms, which is to be expected.  My school has later rounds of OCI that I will be participating in, but supposing that doesn't work out, do firms hire 2L SAs after seeing their fall semster 2L grades?

mqt is wrong.

Chances are there are dozens of firms in your state with programs that range from $1100/wk-2000/wk with non-Vault firms.

YBR - other than searching martindale, how can I research non-nalp and non-vault firms of this size in my market?

They sure do - you just gotta look for them, and accept the fact that if you're gonna work less, you're gonna be paid less. Less for my firm = not that far off of market rate.

Dont want to completely highjack thread, but can you offer some insight into lifestyle firms in NYC?  Maybe a list of such firms, hours, size, what you like and what you dont like about your firm?  What is "not that far off market" 130, 140? Also, how competitive are these firms, I would guess less competitve than market paying jobs?

2L job search / Summer Grade Boost to GPA
« on: August 15, 2008, 04:54:07 PM »
I am a rising 2L, took a class this summer, did well, and as a result my GPA changed from around a 3.55 to a 3.6.  After spring semester I was just outside top 15%...my school doesn't recalculate ranks after summer session.  While the change in GPA is not enormous, as a Tier 2 student a jump from just outside top 15% to, perhaps, top 10% would be huge in the job search.  My problem is that I asked my school to give me a top 10% GPA cutoff so I can put it on may resume and they are not getting back to me.  I would like to send out resumes to a handful of firms that did not attend OCI this week.  Any suggestions?  Leave the spring rank off and just go with the GPA?  Explain in cover letter?  I know OCS should be able to answer but they have been giving me the run around telling me to contact registrar for cutoffs and registrar has been non-responsive.
