Aren't plaintiff side hours not as brutal as Biglaw defense because clients are not usually billed by the hour?

Looking for some info re plaintiffs side securities litigation - what the work is like, hours, current state of the practice, etc. In particular, I am looking for some information about medium size firms (60-100 attys) that specialize in representing institutional/municipal investors in class actions against corporations for securities fraud. Thanks.

depends on school, lsat, undergrad gpa and rank...i go to a school in the 60s with a 3.2 curve...i had a 3.8 first semester last yr, was top 6%...applied gulc early..got deferred then wait listed after second semester left me with a 3.6...sat on wait list all summer then finally rejected...i am convinced my low lsat and poor undergrad gpa (2.7) was the deciding factor...

General Board / Re: ITT: i discuss midlaw« on: February 13, 2009, 06:28:59 PM »I'm in midlaw, and it rocks. Minimum to get a bonus - 1800 hours. No minimum to retain your job (and no one seems to be penalized if they bill, say, 1600.) Lots of responsibility, which is sometimes stressful, but it sure as hell beats doc review. I'm not looking to ever lateral to a big firm, so exit opportunities are not an issue for me. In fact, I just want to learn enough so that I can feel comfortable exiting out of firm life altogether in four or five years to open my own practice, so the added responsibility is a plus. Pay - less than market rate, but not really that far off. I honestly think I have the best job in NYC, and kinda feel bad for the suckers in biglaw. this sounds good - did you summer at your firm? any suggestions for those of us looking to get into midlaw? fyi - I am interested in the NYC metro area.. |
