Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Michigan 1L Taking Questions

Do Summer starters have a lower median LSAT/GPA?

In my case, yes. but probably not true for summer starters as a whole.

My hometown homie here is far too hard on himself.

I have to say that the designation of AA as a breakfast pastry desert is entirely accurate. I've also found it impossible to locate a decent donut... do any of my compatriots have recommendations on this?

I mean, really... the nearest Dunkies is on the far end of Ypsi, I think.

But, on the other hand.... we have hippie hash.

The law library is beautiful...but the novelty of it since preview weekend has worn off....after hours of writing my thesis in here.

You have not yet begun to live in the library.

Come finals, you'll have a comfortable little butt groove worn out in your favorite chair. You'll build a little nest out of Nutshells and Crunchtimes and Law-in-a-Flash cards. You'll remember the sun, if vaguely... but you'll forget why you miss it. :-p

Okay, I asked for an official call on this, and they say that Michigan awards the degree as of the last day of exams of the student's final semester (i.e., they award the degree retroactively as of the final exam.) So summer starters are technically part of the December class year.

In short, summer starters are doomed to a lifetime of attending class reunions with people who were 2Ls during their 1L academic year. Hooray!

Summer starters are Class of '10, or Class of '11?

Class of '11. Michigan graduates the summer class in February, I think.

No, it's in December.  Last semester graduation was the day after our last final.

Senior Day is in December. But when's the degree officially awarded? Since grades aren't due for their final semester until over a month after Senior Day, it seems logical that the degree would actually be awarded in February, unless it's handled retroactively.

My roommate's graduating this winter, and he says he has no idea how to answer this question.

Is there really not a better way to tell us when grades get submitted? I mean, y'all are really good at telling us about everything else that's happening at school.  A simple e-mail would really be fantastic.

Agreed. Of course, you could also adopt the strategy of not checking for grades at all until a week after the deadline.

I'm not. But it seems like a good idea. In theory.

Right, yeah, I hadn't checked until today. Problem with that approach is also that I don't know when the deadline is. I'm also sort of expecting facebook status messages to blow up in an obnoxious way when our first doctrinal grades are posted.

Obnoxious, yes. But also useful, if you want to relax about the whole thing. I think most people do it out of a sincere desire to do their classmates a favor, so it doesn't bother me in the least.

What I want to know is why it takes so long to grade Legal Writing. I mean, our final briefs were graded before exams ended.

I'm checking Wolverine Access three times a day, of course. But it seems like a good idea. In theory.
