I'm kind of curious as to who would become the de facto head of the party at that point. I imagine the party wouldn't want W. McCain and Palin probably not since they would be the losing ticket (and Palin has no national position). Boehner and McConnell seem too low-profile. So does the Republican Party spend some time being effectively leaderless? What's the deal here?
Also if you want to respond to the hypothetical by saying the hypothetical will not happen, well that's fine and all but that's not what we're here to debate.
