Law School Discussion

Go to the school. Visit it. Talk to the administration. Meet with a professor. Talk to the students. Compare the fields of law you're interested in, and see how many of their grads go into those fields...you can find this info by looking up stats, talking to alum, talking to the career services office, etc.

Do this, and you'll know if you're "comfortable" with that school.

I don't think its a huge deal, but I would probably try to fit in the school's name.

Is it a 2-page limit? Couldn't you mess with the margins? Font size from 12 to 11.5?

Just a disclaimer: I am a T3 1L...

The OP asked whether going to a T3 school is "worth" it.

Asking whether something is "worth" it is a very relative question.

Ask yourself...how much will it cost to go to that school?

Ask yourself...how much benefit will you receive from going to that school?

For cost, consider tuition, housing, scholarships, debt at graduation, and what you could be doing/earning for 3 years if you didn't go to law school (opportunity cost).

For benefit, consider where you will be in 3 years and what opportunities you will have then. Call up some alum and figure out where they work, how much they make, how many passed the bar, etc etc...

Balance the two. Hopefully this gives you a starting point when you try to answer your question of whether its worth it.

It's based off of empirical data, so yeah, it has some validity. I think the LSAC calculator is a pretty useful tool that should be used simply to give you a BALLPARK starting point of where to start when applying. If the calculator says you have a 0-5% chance of getting into that school, that should tell you something. However, it's a calculator, and it is based only off of GPA and LSAT. If you have incredible soft factors (I'm talking about working 10 years in an NGO), then it's different for you. Also, it's different if there's a great disparity between your GPA and LSAT (you have a super-high GPA but a low LSAT, or vice versa).

I have been on Linked In for years, and have really liked it.  The only thing is that you must be an ACTIVE user to get a benefit.  I actively search the site for profiles of people I meet at law school and add them.  I also keep my info up to date.  I have 150 connections, but it wasn't easy.  Resources like this are only useful if you actually work at them.
