General Board / Rudest/harshest/meanest summer job rejections
« on: January 10, 2008, 07:08:47 PM »
The vast majority of the rejection letters I have received so far have gone to the tune of "although your resume is impressive, we are not hiring 1Ls," or "although your credentials are impressive, we regretfully do not have a summer internship program."

Today, however, I received the most FOUL letter I've ever read. The person who wrote it is probably a jerk.

"Dear Ms. Anxiety (my last name was SPELLED INCORRECTLY in the letter),

Thank you for your letter, with resume, expressing an interest in a position as a summer associate in our firm. Your resume was carefully reviewed. I regret to inform you that we have decided not to consider your candidacy further.

Sincerely yours,

Jerk Partner"

Eww. How about you guys? Get any crappy rejection letters lately?  :P

I have no grades yet either, and probably won't get them until I head back to school.  It sucks, I would love to have hard numbers to talk about at interviews rather than play the game and know I have almost no chance at an offer until grades come out.

However, it is important to consider this may work to your advantage, you can get interviews with firms and try to impress them, when they may have not considered you at all if they saw the grades first.  Just an idea.  I know it is unlikely that marginal grades will lead to an offer even if you impress in the interview, but it's possible.

That's kinda what I'm worried about. I already had 2 interviews and I had to bull a lot because I have no idea what the grades are, lol. I'd be REAL embarrassed if I got my grades and they were a big old pile of *&^%.

Welcome to law school lol.  I have none yet either and I'm a 2L.......

do you think the lack of grades will have any effect on likelihood of getting a job?

General Board / Re: Law Clerk Wanted, $10 hour?
« on: May 13, 2007, 12:49:43 AM »
You guys are a harsh crowd tonight!

No matter how you slice it, $10/hr blows - especially if you have had an actually salary before. I think Slacker is right on the supply/demand.  As long as their are students willing to take that, then I guess employers can pay it. Just goes to show you how much grades and contacts make a difference.

Anyway, back to packing boxes on a fun Saturday night.

It does blow, admittedly. But if you are in the predicament of having that or nothing, it is always better to choose that. Additionally, if you have little to no experience in law, it shouldn't matter how much you were making at your former job before you decided that you wanted to go to law school. Your earnings are commensurate on your experience in law -- not your former field.

Once the dumb emoticons start coming out, its time to end the thread. Thanks for those of you with a decent response.
Goodbye.

I never do this but... HAHAHAHA YOU DIDN'T DO WELL ENOUGH IN LAW SCHOOL TO GET A JOB IN A BIG FIRM!!!!!!!

It's nice to know that a$$ will be stuck with a sole practicioner at best.

-- Disclaimer -- This inceredibly mean post is limited in scope to Atossa.

As if the fact that she is still looking for a job in mid-May was not indicative enough of this, lawl.

Is this to say that you've run out of incredibly witty comments insulting our usernames for lack of something constructive to say?

Based on the OP's replies in this thread, I would say that the $10/hour salary she was offered is completely reasonable. I wouldn't put up with her for one cent more.

I started as a legal assistant two years ago and had no experience and started at $10/hour. With experience, the pay-rate increases. If you have none, well then I suppose that's tough  :P

Touro College Law Center / Re: Waiting to hear from Touro...
« on: May 12, 2007, 01:26:40 AM »
I applied to Touro for 2007 and have yet to hear from the school.  I don't know what my chances are of getting in. I got a 147 on the LSAT and have a GPA of 3.59.  If you have any insight, please respond. Thanks.

At this point in the game, I feel like you might be "waitlisted." The second seat deposit deadline is on Tuesday, May 15. I say "waitlisted" because they are probably just waiting to see who returns the second deposit before accepting you for sure. :) I personally think your GPA is good enough to make up for the LSAT.
