Good luck Matthies!  That is why I am posting on here as well.  Stupid bar exam...

22
Listening to the oral arguments does absolutely nothing come exam day.  Complete waste of time.

I agree.  Google anything you dont know (or wikipedia, that got me through Con Law).

dont bother with either.

I went through all of law school without ever using a black's law dictionary in any format.  If you dont understand a word, it probably isnt important (or at least not important enough to spend the time looking it up).

I just graduated from GW (studying for the bar so maybe not so helpful), but if yall have any questions, let me know.

35 bids is what it is.  May have to direct write if all else fails.

nothing is a safe shot even in IP work.

Good luck though.  I just graduated from GW (IP).  I can tell you that employers love us, and I definitely didnt have your background.

Studying for the LSAT / Re: Highlighter?
« on: July 18, 2009, 08:23:34 PM »
Dont worry about silly things like this going in to the LSAT.  Just bring a highlighter if you want to use one.  They check you when you come in.  If you cannot have it, throw it away or leave it by the door and get it later.  No harm and no great loss.

Good luck!  Law school is a long hard journey but is doable.

General Board / Re: ~100% Sure I Want to Do Lit -- Which Firms?
« on: July 05, 2009, 01:58:44 PM »
there isnt much of a distinction between grades required for kirkland and grades required for cravath.  I actually got interviews at cravath but not at kirkland last OCI.

As far as lit:
Quinn (great, but surprisingly difficult to get your way in with)
Kirkland
Paul Weiss
Davis Polk
Ropes & Gray (but not NY unless you are interested in IP)
Skadden
Cooley Gotleib
Latham (although they have been harsh to their employees lately)
Fried Frank
Covington

Those are the only ones I really found worth applying to last OCI.  Pretty decent lit practices at all of them.

I've heard terrible things about Crowell, but I guess everyone has a different opinion.

I dont think there is anything wrong with applying to multiple offices.  I did NY/DC at some places.  The thing is though, Quinn only really has offices in NY and California from what I remember (maybe small offices elsewhere, but at least no DC office).  Im sure you know this, but it is really difficult to break into any markets, other than DC/NYC, without a connection to the city.  So, I dont know how much success you would have convincing Quinn you actually wanted to work in their other offices.  But, I dont know about your connections or interests, so who knows.
