Transferring / Re: WashU v. Ohio St.
« on: July 21, 2008, 12:53:34 AM »
well the early week of OCI at WUSTL closed July 14, which is perhaps why they wouldn't let you participate.
Anyway, there are 3 weeks of OCI in the fall and resume collects that I am sure you'd be allowed to participate.

while it's nothing special to be on a journal, I think many law firms view it as a rite of passage, somewhat. THEY had to do all that stupid cite checking, and so should you, sort of thing.

Moreover, while being on Law Review or any other journal, may not distinguish you in the eyes of recruiters, its omission on your resume may be questioned. I know several people who were asked about this during their interviews.

You may have to go a bit further in your job hunt or participate in something a little out of the ordinary, as opposed to your classmates on a journal.

Incoming 1Ls / Re: Apple Laptop and Bootcamp.

I say "try" because you cannot have vmware or parallels installed on a bootcamp machine and expect the examsoft program to run. It somehow figures out that those prgrams are installed and will refuse to boot the software. So if you want to use your computer for examsoft, do not I repeat do not install vmware or parellels to work with your bootcamp partition.

I have both Parallels and Bootcamp. Didn't run into any issues nor did many other people. I don't have my bootcamp setup, though in any shape or form connected with parallels

yeah there's not much that compares in STL to NYC o Boston  :D

Anyway, the Central West, actually, is pretty middle of the road between WUSTL and SLU. In fact, you can get to both campuses going down Lindell

I have a macbook pro. XP on Bootcamp is fine. I have a 5gb partition for it, and use it only to run the examsoft software. I recommend 5-7 if that's the only thing you'll use it for, otherwise,it's just dead space.

@Wattage2004
have you considered Parallels? or VMware? I use OneNote as well (yeah it sucks they won't put it in the office suite for mac), but I run OneNote in parallels. It's nice, especially with "Spaces." This way you don't have to boot into XP, but can run OS X and XP at the same time.
Granted, you have to install XP twice (examsoft MUST be run on Bootcamp) but Parallels makes OneNote at lot more accessible.

Also, if you only have a SP1 disc, you can download SP2 from the microsoft website

for the past 2 years, WUSTL and the firm of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal have offered a pre law school course at the firm over the summer. I'm pretty sure it's free and from what I hear, it was quite informative

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Wash U($$$$) vs. U Mich (loans)

well, WUSTL puts grads into BIGlaw in NYC, but you're going to have to do pretty well in class rank and probably do a bit more footwork than you would at Michigan. see if you can compare OCI firms, for starters

COL, I am sure, is pretty comparable, so which city seems more appealing?
The STL area has been wrought with earthquakes lately :P

Current Law Students / unprofessional? career killer?
« on: March 20, 2008, 06:12:12 PM »
i accepted an internship for a judge in superior ct of DC back in Feb. this week offered internship for chief judge in 3rd cir. ct. of appl. in DC.

I will most likely be turning down the appeals internship, out of professionalism and courtesy to the magistrate judge... but

hypothetically, how bad does it look if I were to do the other?
how will that affect career prospects?
