Current Law Students / 12" or 15" Powerbook?
« on: July 20, 2005, 12:04:19 AM »
Hey folks, I'm def. buying an apple laptop but kinda unsure of which to get 12" or 15" powerbook. Basically I think the 12" is great for portability, and small size. 15" is great because of screensize and for further down the road, it's more upgradable. I don't know if the 15" will end up being cumbersome or if it'll be just fine. So yeah, kinda torn, and ideas? Suggestions? personal preferences, anecdotes, fireside stories?

Current Law Students / Active, engaged learner or gunner?
« on: May 15, 2005, 05:19:42 PM »
Hi folks, I've got a question if you don't mind: What's the difference between being an active, engaged learner and a gunner? There's so much talk about "gunner's" being bad that it seems anyone asking a question or volunteering to answer is seen in a negative light. Personally, I learn best by asking and answering questions, in fact, I believe most people learn best this way. For those of you who are now "seasoned vets" of 1L and beyond, what are your thoughts? With that being said, I do plan to ask and answer questions... not be obnoxious but if I don't understand, I'm not going to just sit there and become more confused...

Anyhow, thoughts?

Current Law Students / Part-time work as 1L?
« on: January 23, 2005, 08:13:46 PM »
I will be a 1L come this fall. I am planning on working part-time 5-10 hours a week while in school, to pay for groceries, books, etc, while my wife brings home the bacon. Does anyone have any thoughts for types of jobs? I did the waiter thing as an undergrad.. don't really want to spend nights away from my wife..... Or experience working as a 1L?

Stories, thoughts, anecdotes appreciated.

Curious, is anyone attending?

Well I finally got an email over the weekend stating that I'd been put on the waitlist at UB. In some ways I'm extremely stoked. Actually, I am totally stoked! The only drawback is this: They take people off the waitlist up until classes start. I'd love to wait until the last minute and see if I get in, but if I don't get in by June-ish, I think I'll have to withdraw my application. Basically the relocation isn't a big deal but my wife finding a job might be a kicker.... though anyone from WNY knows that schools don't do too much hiring before late July . :)

Anyhow, that's the news.

Yep, just got the letter in the mail, via a scanned document from my folks. No big deal really. 2 down, 5 to go.... batting .500

Choosing the Right Law School / Anyone dinged at W&M yet?

So... anyone? Just curious. I expect to be since I'm a long, long-shot. Wondering if anyone's heard.

Choosing the Right Law School / Buffalo email.....
« on: February 22, 2005, 03:41:54 PM »
Alright. So I called UB the other day to ask about my status since they don't fancy returning emails. This morning I get an email saying that a decision was just made on my file and that a letter was being sent as the email was written. Ok, cool. I should hear in the next 10 days or so. Great.

So this is my thought process. If the decision were favorable, they'd probably say so in the email. If I was being denied they would just wait for the mail to arrive. Probably wouldn't tell me waitlisted via email either.

Any thoughts?

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Regent U.

Just received my first acceptance letter from Regent University. It's a safety school and I don't plan on attending, but it's still nice to find out that someone wants you. :)

I'm wondering if anyone on this board who is currently attending UB, been accepted, or like me hoping to be accepted, has any info on UB. I've cruised their website and read all that stuff, but I'm looking for people who've sat in on classes, had a tour, etc. I'd love to do so myself, but proximity or lack thereof has kind of put a crimp in that idea.
Any info would be great!
