Choosing the Right Law School / Re: 2006 USNEWS Rankings leaked
« on: March 21, 2005, 04:54:29 PM »
Yeah, I received the Cooley rankings awhile back. It's pretty funny. I think "value" is one of their top criteria.

I should do my own rankings, where whatever school I end up choosing is #1, and the ones that rejected me are 4th tier.

How important in the decision making process was your gut instinct of a school once you visited, basically whether it felt like the place for you? (vs. using rankings, prestige, etc.)

Has anyone been on the fence, then visited two or more schools and known for sure after just your short visits that one of them felt right?

I'm about to visit USD and Lewis and Clark, and as of right now, I'm still not sure where I'd like to go.

With a 168, you should have a good shot. Hastings is supposedly slow this year anyway.

Mine has been, "Your application for admission has entered the committee review process. This process usually takes several weeks," for MORE than several weeks!

What is "bump?"

I wonder if people who were denied could view their letter online as well. Or maybe decision- with no letter equals denial, and it'll just come snail mail.

I guess a lot of us get in to our safety schools early on, and then end up waiting for our top choices, because generally our top choices won't be auto-admit, they'll probably be a close call!

I'm waiting on Davis, Hastings, Emory, and Georgia.

I'm in at USD, Lewis and Clark, Loyola Chicago, USF

So it seems clear that the best schools are still leaving me hanging!

What about anyone else (zakrob)? Did your status update before you got your acceptance?

How long was your status "evaluation in progress" before you heard?

I've been evaluation in progress since 2/24/05.

Yeah it's a turnoff that there are so many married students, but I guess social scene shouldn't be the #1 factor! I'm visiting both schools soon, so I hope to have a strong gut feeling one way or the other during my visits.

These schools also seem to be at the opposite ends of the spectrum politically. I lean a bit left, so I wonder how I would fit in at USD if it's really conservative.
