Transferring / Re: Transfer Applications and "What If's".....

Thanks for bringing me up to speed on the abbreviations.  I will check the group on yahoo thanks.  One would have to wait until the end of the spring semester of their first year to then apply to transfer?  So its all done during the 1L summer?

Wow, so in theory with high enough 1L grades, one could go from John Marshall or Florida A&M to University of Florida or University of Miami?  I'm a newbie so please bear with me.  I'm sorry but what do all these abbreviations mean?

Sounds good.  That being said, how far up can someone transfer?  Is it possible to go from a Tier 4 to a Tier 3 School?  Like if I went to John Marshall, would it be possible to then transfer to Stetson or Florida Coastal or St. Thomas?

What is looked at more closely when an applicant wants to transfer after the first year.  Undergrad/LSAT score?  Or first year law school grades?  Or a 50/50 combination of both?

Yeah I would like to attend FL Coastal or Florida A&M or St Thomas over John Marshall.  But I have to play the waiting game right now...

Well apparantly you assumed I only appiled to two law schools.  I actually applied to ten law schools.  Those are just the two I have been accepted to so far.  I was denied at Stetson.  I am still waiting to hear back from Florida A&M, Florida Coastal, and St. Thomas..among others...
And as for my remark, all I was saying was that his scenario might play out.  On the other hand I might do really well in law school and land a great job.  No one knows.  I am just staing that in order to see what happens, you have to do it.  Rhetoric won't get you anywhere.

Thanks alot.  Yeah I guess I will see how it plays out; but I assuming that Atlanta would be a better place to live than Montgomery.  I understand all the posts about retake the LSAT and get into a better school.  I won't find a good job coming out of John Marshall.  I understand and recognize all this.  But I will never know how it plays out unless I give it a shot.  The odds arent with me and I am not planning on it, but I may get lucky when I interview for jobs or maybe I will be able to transfer after my first year if I do well grades wise.  Again, I won't know unless I try....

Yeah becuase don't you have to get a statement of good standing from the current dean?  So that in essence will give it away.

When is the optimal time to send in an application to transfer law schools?
Also, what happens when you get denied your transfer by the school you wanted to transfer to and now have to go back to your original school?  Doesn't the Dean and faculty now know you tried to leave?

Hey guys, thanks for the responses so far.  Yeah I played baseball in college and really didn't take my academics seriously until my junior year in college.  I finished undergrad with a 3.0.  I also just finished my MBA.  On the LSAT though I scored a 152 - not too good but the best I could do.

I am under the assumption that both schools, Faulkner and John Marshall are pretty much the same.  Both schools are provisionally ABA approved.  So to me it comes down to where I would want to live...either Atlanta, GA or Montgomery, AL?  I am coming from South Florida.

Any thoughts?

Thanks...
Drew
