I rushed to open my letter for UOP to find out that it wasn't my admissions letter, but instead an invitation to law day in April!  :-\ Should I take this as a sign I got in, or should I take it to mean nothing about admissions status?

Thanks for your insight

Aww, thanks  ;) yes my parents are very proud of me...I know right? what would I be without that knowledge?? lol.

But, I wasn't meaning it as, "I majored in sociology so I'm an expert," or "I majored is sociology so I know better than you," I mentined it to put my my bias out there, as to say, "my view point may be different and skewed being that I studied all about how horribly unequal and unjust this society is." So therefore, my perspective on it is not positive at all.

Awww...everyone is so possitive about growin up disadvantaged, like it was really a problem and didn't much effect you....i beg to differ.

This come from a major in sociology with a emphasis in class and inequality.

If you think you weren't disadvantaged by growing up poor, you are a humble soul, or just don't like to be different because you find it hard to fit in.

Imagine it like race and every one is lined up, some further back then others, and all trying to make it to the same place. Now, you may start out in the back and are faster then everyone so you make it further then someone who started out ahead...don't let that fool you. Imagine how much further ahead you'd be if you started out closer to the finish. There is a such thing as class culture, if you grew up disadvantage which translates into low income or lower class, then you are missing alot of things that could help you along the way and for the rest of your life. Whether its money in the bank, or feeling secure, safe and like you belong. Not only that but if it wasn't so bad, why all the fussing and fighting to get to a better place???

Economically disadvantage....

You went to a low quality inner city or rural public school, Mommy and Daddy have no money to help with anything let alone college, your cultural capital originates from the lower or working class, you were were basically disadvantaged by lack of money to afford anything intellectually enriching and you basically were confined to one city/town your entire life because you never had the money to visit anywhere else. Basically, you have many more hurdles to overcome on your way to the top, you started out behind most "typical" middle class or above law students.

Seriously I wondered the same exact thing!!! My mother is Mexican and my father is white and I have his last name even though I never met the man!!

My last name is a white as its gets! Straight out of England (or Ireland, where my dad has heritage). I was like, are they going to think I'm lying about this! Lol, but I don't think they did consider I got all these schools targetting me and trying to sell me on how minority friendly they are and encouraging me to apply for minority scholarships.

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Re: Deferral v Waitlist
« on: February 14, 2007, 08:25:20 PM »
Silly me, I was happy to be waitlisted at Hasting snd USF considering I have a 150 LSAT score...but I recently discovered how far my URM status and kick as LOR's, Resume and ExC got me...damn I should have been more ambitous, my only reach schools were Hastings and maybe USF, SCU, GSU and Pacific, but its not looking that way from the trend.

I was wait listed to Hastings and USF, when do you think they'll let me know.

and on a tangent....Do you think going to a top tier school like Hastings or even USF is worth the extra cost and big city COL, versus lets say....Pacific or UNLV?

Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / Re: JAG and T-14

I did some research on JAG last year. I can't remember the website, but I know there is one that talks about the JAG education programs. If I find it, I'll let you know.
