1L job search / Boston DA vs. Federal District Court Judge
« on: February 21, 2008, 12:42:29 PM »
So I was just offered a position working for the Boston DA's office. I was given only a week to decide and figured it would be a good summer job for me. However, I was called up by a Federal District Court Judge for an interview regarding a summer internship. Which would you choose, the DA's job or the position with the Judge? I also took this job over working with the US attorney's office in CT.
Does it make that much of a difference? Which one do you think is the best?

Roughly 100K of debt isn't something to take lightly not to mention the money I'm not making by going to school for 3 years. I'm in at some pretty good schools and I know I want to practice law. I have alot of passion for it, but overall, is it really that good of an investment? I think it is, but potential financial woes concern me.

Where should I go next fall? / T19-27 Battle

So outside of the T14, which ones are the best? So far I've gotten into BC, George Washington, BU, Notre Dame with a little cash, and half scholarships at William and Mary and Washington and Lee. So where would you rank these schools against one another? Personally I'd put BC and George Washington at the top followed by BU and Notre Dame followed by William and Mary and Washington and Lee. I know they're giving me some money, but I just don't see them as quite as good as either BC or George Washington in terms of big firm placement.

Acceptances / T19-T27 Battle Royal
« on: February 16, 2007, 12:11:22 AM »
So I've gotten into BC, BU, Notre Dame $, Washington and Lee $$, William and Mary $$, and George Washington. I'm not really locked into any one school and I'm not really set on any one place to practice, and I'm open to living anywhere, but I am really interested in trying to get the best possible job out of Law School and keeping my expenses down. I know, It's not exactly the noblest thing ever...
So where do you think?

Just got accepted to Notre Dame today and they offered me some money too. Pretty excited but I'm just wondering what career asperations you can have coming from south bend. There can't be too many BigLaw jobs in the area. Do the go to DC, Chicago? They seem to have good career prospects but I don't understand where. Also, if anybody could compare them to BC in terms of job prospects that would be great.

Where should I go next fall? / So How Much Debt We Talking About Here?
« on: February 13, 2007, 09:56:06 PM »
Alright, so if I decide not to attend a school that has offered me scholarships, it looks like I am going to be paying around 50-60 grand a year for law school. I plan on taking out loans in order to pay for this, but it looks as if I'm going to wind up with around 150,000 in debt by the time I graduate. I plan on practicing Big-Law and have gotten into some schools that give me good placement. How much of a problem is this debt going to be if I'm making around 125 grand a year? I've gotten some good money offers from solid schools like W&L and W&M but nothing from my top choices BC, BU or GW. How hard should I consider saving some money by going to these schools but then limiting some of the chances I have in attaining a higher salary later on. Basically I'm asking for some cost-benifit analysis. Thanks!

Still no word. I looked at LSN and there are no rejections yet for this year but plenty of acceptances. Were those just the auto accepts or are they just waiting to reject en masse everyone else?

Denials / Dear Georgetown, I am bitter

Got my first ding in the mail today. It pisses me off that I had to wait a week after they had already made their decision to get rejected. It gave me a false hope of thinking I could get in. Just send me an email and get it over with. Screw em.
