I think the two factors that could sway you toward Hofstra would be
a) if you know you want to practice on Strong Island.
b) if you know want to go into public interest work with the low salary and need to minimize debt.

I believe the bookstore is open now.  You can also go to the larger Barnes and Noble on 5th Ave and 18th St.  They carry Cardozo books too.

It is soon, a very abrubt start to law school, but since I've made the decision, I feel very good about it.  There are some distinct advantages; I think the biggest is that the tough 1L courses will be spread out of 3 semesters, and by the time the regular fall class enters, we'll be old pros with a few finals under our belts.

Another optionm, instead of taking the PATH to Newark, would be to take the PATH to Hoboken and switch to a NJTransit Train that gets out at Broad Street-Newark, which is about 5 blocks from Rutgers campus.  The NJTrain takes 15 minutes and is nice, spacious etc. 

I live in Hoboken and was considering doing the opposite commute if I attended BLS.  The commute was a serious downside to BLS.

Did you guys check with admissions about housing?  They sent out an email to the May class asking for anyone who needs help with housing to contact them.  They are trying to connect people.  Online, I would look at Craigs List-- it's not great for outright rentals but is very good for sublets and such.  You should definately be able to find something because lots of people vacate the city during the summer. 

I've lived in and around NY for a long time, so PM me if you have specific questions about neighborhoods, trains etc.

Look at the fine print on your Rutgers deposit.  I believe most of it is refundable if you withdraw by August or thereabouts.  It's proably worthwile to put it down and see if you get in to any of your other schools.

True about the PATH in the wee wee hours.  It can also be filled with drunken meatheads doing chin-ups on the pole.   That said, Hoboken is good spot.  I have been a somewhat reluctant resident for over four years but the place has grown on me.  It has a small city vibe apart from the looming metropolis across the river, very safe, clean, good restaurants (many of which are BYO).  The surface vibe is somewhat post-fraternity bar crawl but there is still the old school charm of the Irish and Italian enclave it once was and a strong underground of artists and musicians (Maxwells is a great live music spot, plus Tunes and DCs).  I would especially recommend Hoboken for those who don't think of themselves as city people.

I hear you. It's tough one.  I turned down money from Seton Hall and in-state tuition from Rutgers. Ask me in ten years if i made the right choice.
