Choosing the Right Law School / Re: all that jazz about Hofstra
« on: February 03, 2007, 03:30:58 PM »
I know very little about the law school at Hofstra, but I am from 20 minutes away from there and can tell you a little about the school outside of the law program.  Personally I would never consider going there.  The area it is isn't great but isn't terrible, Long Island itself is nice.  However, my general impression of the students there based on people I know who went for UG and spending some time on campus is that they kind of suck. Not all of course, but a lot. A lot of guys wearing designer everything and wife beaters and a lot of girls in club clothes for their 9am classes.  My friends who went there for UG said that it was like an overpriced community college.  While the quality of the law school might be much better, that's all I know right now.  I do know someone who goes there for law and when I told him I was going to law school he said "It's not worth it unless you go to a top school."  So, I assume he is not happy there but I didn't find out why.  If you have any questions I might be able to answer let me know.

Where is that thread?  I have talked to many Drexel students who are really happy there but I would be interested to hear from someone who isn't.

I am in the exact same situation as you with the Temple/Drexel situation, same scholarships and all.  Personally, I will be choosing Drexel (although I have not decided between Drexel and Miami).  Drexel has health law which I am interested in.  Money is a big issue for me so the scholarship is important.  All my interaction with Drexel so far has been awesome, they really care about everyone they have accepted.  I have had consistent emails and phone calls from teachers, students and administrators.  The average LSAT for Drexel is up near 160 now, they are going to be a very good school and few doubt that they will get accreditation.  I also feel the co-op program would be great to compensate for the lack of alumni.   But, it is a gamble and not for everyone.
