MReilly... I just wanted to say hi because we have a lot in common! I am 24 and will be getting married this summer. I am originally from New York. I have spent the last two years working as a case manager/therapist for a community mental health center. I totally agree, the work can be really rewarding but it's hard not to get burned out with the pay. My fiance and I love to go out too! I'll be in the day division, but hopefully we will meet!
Thanks for the area info. Unfortunately, the only way we can afford to live in most of those areas is if we buy somthing really small which just won't work, we'll drive each other crazy. We might buy right outside of Manayunk so that would be alright and we are looking at a few places in University City.
I chose Temple over George Mason, Miami, Villanova, Drexel and University of New Mexico. It was a real toss-up for me between Miami and Temple but my fiance preferred Philly and we are closer to our families in NY. Plus I am interested in trial advocacy so Temple is great for that.
Hey, more Philadelphia related questions for people from the area. We are flying in to look at houses probably next week and I wanted opinions on a couple of areas. The areas that seem to be most affordable for us with an easy comute are Mt. Airy and Germantown.... how are these areas? Also, my fiance is convinced that Fishtown is the next up and coming area and that would be the best investment but everyone I know from Philly told me there is absolutely no way we should live there. Any input?
Hey, I'm not sure of the exact address but it's on Ridge St and it's apparently bordering the very southern tip of the Manayunk area. According to the real estate agent it's a nice area, but we are thinking of flying into Philly in the next few weeks to see it if the owners are interested in our offer.
That tax thing kind of sucks but I don't think we would want to move much further from the city and I'm not sure which areas would not have that tax that would be such an easy commute.
Thanks so much for your help!
Cool... it will be weeks before we know for sure about the house so I'll keep everyone updated.
I have a facebook acccount but I haven't used it in like, a year and I am dressed like a clown in my picture.
Savage Fred - hello to a fellow new mexican! I am from the Nob Hill area in Albuquerque but I'm originally from New York and am really looking forward to the east coast. New Mexico is alright, but I miss big city life.
hey - question for those of you who know Philly well. My fiance and I are planning on buying a house and we were looking for something 1000+ sq ft and in a nice area. Since we can't afford that in center city, the house we have our eye on is in Mt. Airy, just off Main Street in Manayunk. It's a 5 minute walk to the train and then a 10 minute commute to Temple. Does this sound like a good location? We thought it might be nice to be a bit outside the city to make it quieter as long as we can commute easily. Also, if this appeals to anyone, we will be buying a multi-unit house and renting out the other units so if you want an awesome landlord let me know if you're interested!
That's cool that some of you guys are from Philly. I know most of the time we'll be studying, but on the rare night we have time to go out I have heard Philly has an awesome bar scene/nightlife so I'm excited to check out some of those places!
Hi everyone! Just mailed my Temple deposit so I just wanted to say hi. My name is Danielle, I did my undergrad in psychology at Carnegie Mellon University and have been working in Albuquerque, NM in mental health for the past two years while getting a masters degree in professional counseling. I am so looking forward to Temple! I am originally from NY, so no instate tuition as of now but I am engaged and will be married in August. Since my fiance will be working full time and we are planning on buying a home, I am hoping for in-state tuition as well. I am planning on studying health law but I am very interested in trial advocacy and international law as well. Looking forward to meeting everyone!
