Where should I go next fall? / Albany vs. Pace vs. Syracuse
« on: February 25, 2007, 03:45:39 PM »
So these are my acceptances thus far, and will likely be the group I'm selecting from (unless, Temple or Chicago-Kent or St. John's wants to provide some solace). I wondering folks' thoughts on the choice and what they would do. Here's what I can ascertain thus far.

Albany -- In the hub of state government, ongoing reclamation story (love from NY Law Journal), good clinics, statewide job placement, suprising portability away from NYS. May have money offer coming. Not sure yet.

Pace -- On the rise in NYC, comfortable environs of White Plains, environmental law, pretty good with IP/media, smaller class. Plus they've offered me $7K.

Syracuse -- Good rep for producing good practicing attorneys, disability clinic, good placement throughout state. Plus, it's my hometown and my family is there. Money offer wouldn't shock me.

Tough choice.

Denials / Dinged at Drexel

I guess the word through the grapevine was true that they were looking to skew their numbers toward tier 2. Has anyone else been surprised by their own Drexel experience?

Oh well ... guess I better study up on Albany a little more and hope Pace and perhaps one or two more schools come through in the clutch for me.

Where should I go next fall? / Neogtiating your way off a waiting list?I
« on: February 13, 2007, 10:06:09 AM »
Is it possible to do that? How do folks here suggest? I'm waitlisted at SUNY Buffalo. My plan is to express continued interest and prepare a second essay -- not a personal statement, but something on the importance of lawyers in fighting for open communications/free speech, something researched and reasoned. I also hope to have a few acceptances in hand so that I can say, "You're my first choice despite acceptances here and be assured I would drop them in s sec if you let me in ..."

Buffalo is high on the radar because it's my state school ... could save me money to go there. It also may be the most highly regarded school I get into with my numbers standing where they are. Granted, if I get into St. John's or Brooklyn or Chicago-Kent, that'll make for a tougher choice.

Acceptances / Fisher-Price's My First Acceptance
« on: February 10, 2007, 03:32:27 PM »
I received word today that I've been accepted to Albany Law School. I feel like the telling everyone I know and even folks I don't know about it. Like, I want to go to the grocery and tell the chasier, "Hey, lady, I'm going to law school!"  ;D

Where should I go next fall? / On the waitlist at SUNY at Buffalo
« on: February 06, 2007, 01:22:50 PM »
Filed under Waitlist but posting here, too:

The first decision I've received, and not an ideal one. Any advice on how to play the situation? How long do I wait before I start checking and making additional sales pitches, so to speak? My sense is that I shouldn't be holding my breath.

Are there any statistics, btw, that show the likeliness of being accepted after first being waitlisted? How often does that happen? And what's the difference between waitlisted and deferred? Also, how long is a waitlist generallyZ

Where should I go next fall? / Media law ...
« on: February 01, 2007, 12:08:42 PM »
Planning to research this myself, but does anyone know of schools known for placements in media law, as in, representing newspapers in libel cases, serving as counsel for places like SourceMedia, etc. Seems that would weigh heavily in a combo of constitutional, IP, corporate and broadcast comm. Is that what media companies/lspecialist firms look for in candidates?

Any light you could shed would be great?

Where should I go next fall? / PT vs. FT employment prospects.
« on: January 31, 2007, 12:59:31 PM »
Was just wondering if anyone could speak to the opportunities that would be available to part-time students  ... are law review and clerkships still possible? What would be an optimal placement coming from a part-time track? I ask because I may end up having to go part-time due to economic constraints.

Where should I go next fall? / Wow, we're early ...
« on: January 24, 2007, 02:32:31 PM »
So the word from St. John's is that they have less than 50% of the total applications they expect in at the moment. And all this time I felt like a slacker for sending it in on Dec. 27. :-)

Where should I go next fall? / Any 155 LSAT success stories out there?
« on: January 23, 2007, 12:58:45 PM »
Help alleviate a homeboy's worries ... I'm at 155 with a 3.37 and 10 years of work experience. Has anyone gotten high T2 acceptances at that level so far in this cycle? I should mention that I'm not URM or a foreign national.
