Law School Admissions / Re: Summer Study Abroad ?'s
« on: December 28, 2006, 08:01:23 PM »
Studying abroad shows that you've had an interesting experience, but don't overestimate how much law schools will appreciate it.  From what I've read in those "how to get into law school" books, a lot of applicants to the top law schools have studied abroad.  In one of those books an admissions person (I think from U Penn?) said he doesn't care to read about study abroad experiences in personal statements because they see that all the time.

I studied abroad in Buenos Aires and my biggest regret is that I couldn't stay longer.  My advice to you is that you should go somewhere you probably wouldn't visit on vacation and stay for as long as you can!  Also, if you've studied another language, go to a country that speaks that language.  You'll improve your speaking skills and law schools really like students who know other languages.

Law School Admissions / Re: NYU Acceptance

I agree- NYU must be pretty haphazard. I have lower numbers and got a relatively quick acceptance. Sent the application through LSAT on 11/30, never got any notification that they received my application or that my file was complete, but got the acceptance on 12/26 dated 12/18. Thought that was strange, but I can't complain!
