Transferring / Re: GW Transfer Registration
« on: August 09, 2008, 12:15:42 PM »
Hey man, I know this is off topic, but didn't you get into Michigan?  You're going to GW instead?  I mean, I'm going to GW too, I'm just a little surprised by your decision :P

I'm registering for mostly civil rights and con law classes, as that is my area of interest.

I can't authoritatively comment on your odds, but I can tell you I'm going from a T4 to a Top 20, and I was Top 2%.

It seems like that guy gets a lot of flak on here for plugging his blog/book, but I haven't read any of his stuff.  I'm surprised no one has started bashing him on this thread yet, ha.

Do you have any idea what Lexington is like?  It's smaller than Buffalo.  Why didn't you apply to schools in big cities if that's the environment you're looking for?  Lexington is a small college town in the middle of nowhere.  Yeah you'll be able to get a DC job afterwards, I don't imagine Lexington has a significant legal market.

Is this a flame?  It's hard to believe what you're saying is true.  If it is true, then by all means put that you speak three languages on your resume, are you kidding me?  Firms love that kind of stuff. And your undergrad record would compliment a career in IP law if you're interested in that at all.  Even if you're not, having a technical background will always be a plus.

.... I don't think you're gonna find many people on this board telling you not to leave a T4 school to go to a T1 school.

I'm transferring from a T4 to a Top 20 and I'm not even remotely questioning it.  With you it should be even less of a dilemma, considering you're in the most competitive legal market in the country in the midst of a looming recession.

Just do it, you know you want to.

Oh, and congrats!

I agree.  Get the hell out of Golden Gate.

I think if you did well at your previous school that OCI will be fine.  I don't see how the influx of transfers would affect an otherwise qualified candidate from at least getting interviews (at least that's what I'm telling myself) :)

I'm keeping the faith... and I'm still confident in my decision to go to GW.

I suggest that you call Duke to try to get some answers about this.  Ask about OCI too.  Duke is definitely a school that you would want to hold out for (or at least I would).

Sounds like a deferral to me.
