The GPA will be a big issue, but the URM status will go a very long way to making up for it - I'd think you should have a solid shot at HLS.  I think you'll find that top-3 schools are more able to exercise a holistic approach than the rest as these schools know they rock and don't care so much about what USNWR thinks.  The other schools seem almost purely focused on gaming USNWR numbers so chances of them considering anything other than GPA and LSAT are slim.

Check out LSN and apply early.  I'd guess you should not have any trouble with the lower T14 and you might just sneak into the top 3 with a bit of luck.

I don't know anything about the NY school, but something's wrong with ya if you'd rather be in NY than Boulder  :P

Also note that its mostly law students on this board and law students as a group are probably some of the most ill informed about job prospects (else I suspect many wouldn't be law students) - in short, ask people at prospective future employers - hopefully you have a solid network in NY public service or wherever you wanna end up - call some young attorneys there and get their take.

Realistically its going to be really hard, but not impossible to pull the con-law/judge thing.  The big con law litigators I know went to HLS/YLS, were on law review, had near-perfect grades and clerked for SCOTUS.  Its often, but not always, these types that get nominated for fed judge spots.  There's also of course a bunch of politics involved - research the nomination process a bit.

Congrats on the acceptance.  As for whether its worth it, I'd say yes if you are independently wealthy and intellectually curious. Probably no from a cost/value/ROI standpoint (though this would depend in large part on your next-best alternative).

I suspect that if people actually paid for barbri directly rather than having it funded by employers barbri would loose a huge percentage of their business.

^  Study hard, take a prep course and do all the work they suggest and more and re-take.  I suspect that the more traditional big-box prep courses (like kaplan) are probably the best suited for lower scorers but I don't have exposure to all of them.

Its just a test and not even a terribly demanding one.  Actual practice is much more work and requires more care - you can screw up a huge portion of the test and pass, screwups aren't so well tolerated in the real world. I'd say get it over with now.

UT is excellent with a solid national reputation.  Dunno about the others.
