Yeah, UTK!!!

I agree with the post above.  I based my decision mainly on location, but had that school not "felt right" I don't think I would have made that choice.  You want to do well and suceed in law school and if you aren't happy at the school you choose, I think it would be very hard to stay motivated enough to suceed.  Just my two cents.  Good luck.

Law School Rankings / Re: Do the new rankings change your mind?
« on: March 30, 2007, 03:00:56 PM »
Hasn't affected my decision at all.  Talking to many mid and biglaw hiring partners has opened my eyes to the fact that, since I won't be going to a t14, location should be the single most important factor in my decision. It sounds like you are in the same boat as me. Don't let USNews choose your law school for you.

They have to be able to compare apples to apples.  With only a small number of law schools maintaining a part-time program, it would be impossible for the USNews to objectively judge those schools with part-time programs against all the others with only full-time enrollment.  Take a look at http://officialguide.lsac.org/search/cgi-bin/results.asp?PageNo=1.  You will see that even the top schools such as GULC and GW admit a part-time class with much lower numbers.

Last year Toledo was 93, now they are 85. Weren't they a tier 4 not that long ago? They started a part-time program (this is HALF of their incoming class) so that they could report higher incoming statistics. Do you think USNews will ever require reporting part-time student enrollment stats? They wouldn't have to give them as much weight as full-time students, but they should at least be calculated! I am considering matriculating at Toledo, but if USNews changes they way they collect data, or other schools start doing this part time thing, then Toledo could drop as dramatically as they climbed...

EDIT:

Just noticed in the 2008 Online rankings that only 74 of the 2006 incoming class was full time, while 116 were part time! Does ANY other school have a ratio of full time to part time students like this?

Second Edit:

Logged back in a few hours later, and now the incoming class of 2005 is listed instead. 85 full time and 89 part time. WTF is going on

How long are going to keep posting about the ups and downs of Toledo?  For gods sake, we can't tell you anything about Toledo that you don't already know.  If rankings are THAT important to your decision (as seems apparent from your above post), then you should wait it out a year and reapply to some t1 schools.  But for Christ's sake, please stop asking us to validate your decision to go to toledo!

If these rankings are real, which I have not seen with my own eyes, whats up with UVA?  Or am I just being paranoid?  Was thinking of turning down Duke$$ for them...

Are you joking?

Rickster, have you had a chance to visit?  I was a little up in the air also, until I visited.  I was really impressed.

Passing up some pretty high t1 schools to go to UT, I definitely have tried to keep from letting rankings weigh to heavily on my decision.  However, since I have decided on UT, it was nice to see them move up a couple spots to #53 today.

Can't make this one.  I'll be going to the one in May.  Maybe by then I can line up some housing options and check them all out at once.

According to LSN, no one has been rejected or waitlisted.  Their seat deposit isn't due until June so they may be taking their time (not to imply that UT's seat deposits has any bearing on an applicants decision making timeframe considering everyone else's is due in April).
