Law School Applications / Re: UVA Scholarships

This is really getting ridiculous. UConn's scholarship offer (which I declined) for money + full tuition waiver had a deadline of Sunday--how would UVa have wanted me to deal with that if I were waiting for scholarship money (which for me is an outside possibility, but unlikely)?

UVa had impressed me so much at ASW...

If it makes you feel any better, UVA at full price >>> UConn full ride.

Right, but it's the principle. This isn't 'Nam.

Yeah, it is the principle. They'd have to pay ME to get me to live in Hartford for 3 years.

Law School Applications / Re: Gtown GLS? Anyone? Bueller?

Supposedly decisions went out at the end of last week.  I imagine that rejections will not be sent out until May (after first seat deposits are due), when they can see how many people given initial offers are planning on attending and doing GLS.  Anyone get an initial offer? Anyone get a ding?

I got a call from Dean Bellamy saying I have "good news" coming today (possibly via e-mail) on Friday evening, but I refuse to believe it until I see it.

Good luck to you, Dimrod--we're in this together.

ooh - I didn't get a call...  Now is when I start worrying...

Yeah, but I had been e-mailing them to ask my status, so I get the impression I was an exception...

Haha, I think I'm about ready to withdraw rather than give them the satisfaction of dinging me or continuing to defer me into oblivion. Fuckers.  ;D

Anyone else get some weird snobby vibes from some of the other admitted students?  I thought it was interesting that THEY were the ones exhibiting the traditional UVA undergrad stereotype whereas the actual UVA law students didn't.

I actually thought that almost all the admits I spoke with were nice and relaxed.  The only feminine hygiene product I saw was the "gunner" during the mock class.  He actually replied to a question with a case; and then preceeded to raise his hand at every question she asked, even after she ignored him.
I couldn't believe it.

But other then him, everyone seemed cool.

You talking about the guy sitting in the middle of the room or the one at the front left (looking down at the podium)? The one in the middle struck me as a feminine hygiene product; my jury was out about the other one.

I can't believe we're talking like this, haha.

Damn, I wish I'd been paying more attention to this board instead of just the general app board so I could have met you all!

I got a superb vibe. Assuming I get bounced at Harvard and GLS at Gtown rejects me, I'll be at UVA in a heartbeat.

Hey Ferbear, I asked this in another thread, but this may be the better place for it.  I'm just curious why the GLS thing is such a big deal for you. Mainly because I started out the process thinking it was for me as well, but the more I learned about what the program really entailed (there not really being that much stuff you actually get and there being a lot of stuff you have to do that you could just as easily do as a regular student AND be able to pick between the two curriculums).  Anyways, good luck getting in this week, but I still say you should go to UVa either way.  I'm pretty sure getting in is going to make very little difference in my ultimate choice.

I responded over in the applications board, but I'm curious to ask here--what about you?

I sent Harvard an email a couple of weeks ago telling them about scholarships and how it would help me to have a decision to them by the end of the month, but of course they don't acknowledge that with a response.

I sent Harvard some extra material after they put me on Hold, and they can't even acknowledge that they received it.   ::)

Just annoying because the only schools that might sway me from my current first choice are the ones I haven't heard from.

Ditto.

Threeto.

Fourto. At least the Gtown GLS letters are coming out late this coming week, so I'll know exactly where I'm going once I have that letter ... except, of course, that I have to wait until Harvard dings me. Ugh.

Is the GLS program really going to determine where you go to school?  I was a little disappointed once I talked to people in it that there wasn't a little more to the whole thing.

I really, really want to do IL. Yes, you can take 5 of the 7 credits for it without being in the program, but from what I've gathered, it's the networking opportunities in DC and the resume building that are really worth it.

I really want to do (haha, look at all those wants) some special IL program, and I can't do a summer session so Duke's JD/LLM is out. UVa has a program in Paris that would be PERFECT for me, but since I do both Spanish and French I don't want to lock myself into that box (a box that is relatively far away from the job opportunities in DC) yet. I dunno--I visited both this past week and would be supremely comfortable at either place, so I'm really not going to lose out here. :)

What's your language?

Spanish and French. :)
