General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: Sort of a URM

IIRC Puerto Rican is a bigger boost than some of the other Hispanic divisions. If you do this, I would include something about both the PR aspect and the fact that you are adopted. That's a little bit of diversity too.

I got the email before I went to decision on the checker.

I got swag yesterday. It was a coaster and a f-ing keychain. Seriously, I am down with a free t-shirt, but a coaster? I don't even have a coffee table.

If I have to pay a seat deposit somewhere and then get into another place I'd rather go, I'll figure it's just the cost of doing business; just another factor in where I end up

A lot. It's a self reinforcing cycle. The best firms hire from the best schools, thus raising rankings, therefore causing firms to want to hire top grads more.

Acceptances / Re: Do I take the Money/Does Location Matter?

How tough is the Hofstra scholarship to keep? IIRC Hofstra is infamous for giving out aid attached to a very difficult GPA to maintain. This means you could find the same debt load while still living with the folks. If I were you, I'd bounce to DePaul. If you have the connections to find a job back in NYC, you aren't giving up much and the loans shouldn't be a tremendous burden.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Give me the low down on Cornell
« on: March 07, 2007, 09:49:19 PM »
In DC, it seems too easy to get into a pattern of going out every night.

i'm between northwestern and cornell and having the same worry re: chicago.

but, on the other side, i've never lived away from a city and i'm afraid that i'll feel cooped up (even though i'm sure there's a lot to do in ithaca). but the isolation and the amount of snow worries me. i'm visiting tomorrow to make sure that nothing about the law library reminds me of the Overlook Hotel.

The only worry I have about Cornell is that I'll make too many wine tours. Finger Lakes wineries are solid.

I had sort of ignored Cornell for a while, but I like it more and more as I look into it. I am looking forward to visiting this week and I really hope they give me some money. The price of GULC is looking pretty high, and I like the idea of going to school outside of a city.

As someone dealing with the same choice, I'm leaning Cornell as well. Ithaca just seems like a town where I'd have no choice but to study. In DC, it seems too easy to get into a pattern of going out every night.

If I never hear back from a school, I'm just planning on showing up. Once I'm there, they can't stop me, right?
