Law School Applications / Re: is transferring easy?
« on: April 09, 2007, 11:49:29 AM »
Okay, so it is easier to visit a school rather than transfer. How about if you visit a school for the 2l year, and then attempt to transfer in your 3rd year? Is it possible?

No.  You can only apply as a transfer student at the end of 1L.  Students that want to do a semester or year during 3L at a new school are visiting students.  If you decide during 2L that you want to transfer you're SOL unless you decide to be a visiting student, which is different.

It's just a status checker, albeit a pretty complex one.  They have a FAQ on there if you look hard enough.  This is the first year they're posting admissions decisions online as well.

"You've probably been scanning this email for the words "fee waiver." Well, let me assure you, you're not going to find them. You want in, you better come up with the money yourself."

Did they really say this?  Wow.

I received this email this morning:

"Dear ________,

Happy New Year to you and a very belated thank you for stopping by to visit us at the _______ Forum last fall.  We have had some large technical difficulties with a new database system and when we were looking through our information we realized we had never sent you a thank you note.  I am sorry about that, we did very much enjoy meeting you and hearing of your interest in the University of Minnesota Law School.  We also noticed that you have not yet applied.  I hope you will still consider doing so.  Our application deadline is March 1, 2007.

If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact us either via email or at 612-625-3487.  Best of luck to you in the entire application process.

Sincerely,

Stacy Doepner-Hove
Associate Director of Admissions
University of Minnesota Law School"

I was amused by this, since I applied in October and was rejected.  I think their database still has issues..

ACCEPTED - I just got back from my vacation and found the package sitting on my doorstep.  Complete with the $25K scholarship provided I stay in the top half of the class.  That makes my first acceptance that much sweeter  ;D

Why can't you have your school forward your mail while you're on break?  I always did that when I was an undergrad..

Thanks
