If you are in California, I'd suggest visiting the Davis town and campus. The law school staff will be there to give you a tour, and you can ask them questions face to face while you're there. I was also concerned about degree portability back to SoCal, but the career services office told me approx 1/3 Davis grads go back to SoCal, so you're definitely not alone and the alumni network will stretch to the LA area. I decided to attend after visiting--it's a low key environment, very green, tight-knit community, and easy to get around. Davis just happened to be the environment where I feel I'm more likely to succeed (my other school choices were larger/less personal, more expensive tuition and cost of living, known for being more competitive). That said, if you don't need a quieter supportive environment where everyone knows each other, or if living in an urban environment and having nicer looking law school facilities are more important to you, I'd understand if you looked at a different school.
