General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: How Realistic is the book One L?« on: July 31, 2007, 12:45:01 PM »
Thanks for the responses, guys. Even though I want a challenge, OneL was pretty scary at times and its nice to know that people think it is a little off the mark, to be honest.

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / How Realistic is the book One L?« on: July 30, 2007, 11:03:35 PM »
I just finished the book (a true account of the author's first year at HLS in the 1970s, in case anyone doesn't know).
I thought it was a fascinating read. It made law school seem intense and very challenging--for me these are positive adjectives. What do people who have been 1Ls think of the book? How true to real life is it? How about the portrayal of the other students, and of the professors? Also, if I am going to a school that is ranked high up in the second tier (as opposed to a school like Harvard), how similar/different do you think the experience would be from the author's? Thanks!

Wait List / Re: WL Richmond Email« on: July 25, 2007, 05:48:19 PM »
Richmond does have a priority waitlist. It's my understanding that they go to the priority WL first when offering spots. Rumor has it though, that in this late stage of the admissions cycle, it is very important to let the admissions office know you are interested by calling/emailing.
Having said that, the WL doesn't seem to be moving too much this cycle. That's all I really know, good luck.

Wait List / Re: Waitlisted @ Loyola-LA« on: July 21, 2007, 06:57:23 PM »I just got my acceptance packet this morning via FedEx! That's awesome! I really think acceptances are ten times sweeter if you get off of the WL. Great job!

Law School Applications / Re: OMG! Off the Waitlist! (Post YOUR Decisions here)« on: July 21, 2007, 06:45:36 PM »
I actually am in Villanova right now and I love it! On paper, Pitt and Villanova are about the same for me, so it's just a question of which school atmosphere/location I like better. It turns out that I like the area and the people enough that, for me, Nova now has a distinct advantage over Pitt. Plus I found some great housing.
In fact I met someone in the law school library today who graduated this year from Nova and was studying for the bar exam. It was cool because three years ago he was accepted off of the waitlist in mid/late summer, and he said he knows he made the right decision after telling me some great things about the school. I met lots of other people who gave lots of insight too. So Villanova it is. It feels great to make a decision! This whole board has been such a great resource for me.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Job prospects question« on: July 19, 2007, 09:32:53 PM »
Interesting, I thought for sure someone would say Villanova. Thanks for the honest feedback!
Anyone else have thoughts on this topic?

Where should I go next fall? / Job prospects question« on: July 19, 2007, 06:57:17 PM »
I am deciding between Villanova and Pitt (out of state). I can't believe I got in off ANOTHER WL today, but that's another story.
![]() Here's my main question: Pitt is the "big dog" in its job market, but I have heard that Pittsburgh is an imploding legal market anyway. Nova, on the other hand, is competing with Rutgets, Penn, etc (although I thought that Penn feeds the NYC/DC market more). But Philly has much more opportunity. So which one comes out on top? (Feel free to correct any of my assumptions, too!) Thanks! |
