News Discussion / Re: Berlin Police Block Neo-Nazi Protest Rally
« on: May 09, 2005, 11:41:25 PM »
I agree with the social utility aspect. Yet, I still have fears, especially as a minority, that I am getting one reaction to my face and perhap an entirely different one when I am not around. I'm sure that I am not the only one who feels this way. I expect people to be racist until proven otherwise. And even then you can never be sure. I doubt that this will ever change.

The Germans may say that they are no longer racist but the fact of the matter is that neo-Nazi party officals continue to hold seats in their Parliament.

I think better questions are:(edited)

How many lawyers that have gone to law school since the overwhelming importance on USNWR rankings became standard will become famous?

How many future lawyers that will become judges/hiring partners dismiss anyone who graduated from a school that they themselves joked about as being a third tier toilet and therefore unworthy?

How many law schools that say that the USNWR rankings should be ignored with one face, and then brag about their placement in the rankings with the other?

OK - so start a thread and ask them.

C2

They were rhetorical. My point was that in the past there have been many lawyers that have gone on to successful careers without regard to rankings. The current environment of the USNWR rankings having such a heavy influence will probably change a lot of things down the line. So what can we believe going into law school this fall? Do the rankings count or don't they?

Some doors can't stay closed.

That being said, I respect people who are openly racist rather then people who harbor racial thoughts, attitudes, feelings and never say what is on their minds.
With the open racist you know exactly where they stand. The closet racist can always duck under the cover of ignorance or insensitivity.

Most painful, least confidence inspiring bullpen in the bigs?

Giants. At this point even an 8 run lead in the 7th isn't safe. I'm waiting to hear the first, "Wait till next year." in the stands. Sigh...

Today I saw a rookie that was in AA 2 weeks ago get a try out as closer!!!  >:(

thanks for all of the suggestions, guys. heheeh - the first few suggestions were not quite what i had in mind - hehe :)

stroop - haha, are you sure you are not my bf? he has all of the cd's you suggested. i guess all obscure rockers like the same stuff :)

and he got a watch for christmas....good ideas though :)

sigh.....

Sounds like he has good taste. If he is an obscure rock fan, then he must really be into music. Get him something music related as if to further encourage his interests. Plus any guy that has a girl that encourages whatever he is into is guaranteed to keep him interested in you.  ;D

Get him a gift certificate for a cool record store. Tell him that his CD collection need more, then go shopping with him.

More obscure suggestions:

Kings of Convenience - The new lp
My Chemical Romance
Of Montreal - any
Minus the Bear
The Colorbars
A Band of Bees
Husking Bee - Japanese pop punk
Ojos De Brujo - Barcelona neo-Flamenco
5,6,7,8s - Japanese girl punk band (featured in Kill Bill)
Puffy Ami Yumi - another Japanese girl pop punk band
Pinhead Gunpowder - Billy Joe's Bay Area non-touring side project
Carla Bruni
Hem - Alt folkie
Death Cab For Cutie - Seattle
Pretty Girls Make Graves - Seattle
Long Winters - Seattle
Murder City Devils - Seattle
Dillinger Four - MidWest political punk
Heatmiser - Elliot Smith's Portland band pre-solo
Stevie Wonder - songs in the key of life. note: I'm betting that 70's style soul/r&b will be making a big resurgence
Hank Williams III - alt country
Rufus Wainwright's sister - also alt country but I forget her name at the moment
Mary Lou Lord - singer songwriter
Jurassic 5
Propaghandi
Minor Threat
Pee Chees
Rainer Maria
Sun Kil Moon

Good Luck!
