Law School Applications / Re: How disasterous is this?

Perhaps I am underestimating my chances, but I feel like I am pretty much rolling the dice completely at most schools I want in to. I hit DePaul, Northeastern, and University of Washington as geographic safeties, but I would rather not have to go there.

It's ok. I still haven't gotten in my apps yet because I keep vetoing my personal statement. I WILL get them done, I swear.

That was my problem, I did three full re-writes with about 6 revisions of each. The end product was exactly the kind of PS that I didn't want to write when I started, but tested best with my readers (i.e. friends whose free-time I hijacked + LSD peeps).

Oh, the humanity!!!

So you're saying the OP is full of helium and is probably going to explode?

It would be hydrogen to explode, if it was helium I'd just drown in it. Six of one, half-dozen of the other :-\

Gracias,

I tend to get a little paranoid on stuff like this. I am feeling a bit like I dropped the ball, so I wasn't sure what you meant. I didn't pick it up as a snark, I must be slipping, its been a rough week (and its only Tuesday). Thanks for the feedback.

Extremely, but it has nothing to do with anything you talked about in your post. Well, not directly, at least.

Care to elaborate?

Law School Applications / How disasterous is this?

Well I took the September LSAT and got a 167, my ugrad GPA was 3.51 (LSAC) in computer engineering and I will have 2 years work experience by the time I enter law school.

Here's where the proverbial *&^% hits the fan...

Somehow, following the score reporting, I lapsed in to the most gigantic case of writers block/procrastination ever recorded and didn't get any apps out until the end of December. I am applying to the schools that my scores would suggest, t14 plus additional above 30. I threw a couple out to schools in the 80's as geographic safeties. I have 15 apps out now and am trying to get 8 more.

How screwed am I?

Personal Statement / Re: Diversity Statement, WTF?

Thanks guys (in that non-specific gender-free all-encompasing kind of way) for all your thoughts and advice. The Duke app is worded much in the same way as the Stanford one, i.e. "Diversity" is basically what you will bring to the academic and social life at the law school, whether that be surviving war-torn Rawanda or being a national basket-weaving champion or being able to burp the alphabet. I actually think the observation about it being PS II is pretty spot-on, but to me it almost seems like that is the opportunity. It seems to me like its an opportunity to say directly, "I am intelligent guy, but I still enjoy a good video of someone getting kicked in the nuts" etc. I am going to write it that way if I can ever stop drawing a complete blank and get something on to a page.

Personal Statement / Diversity Statement, WTF?
« on: December 14, 2006, 10:53:04 PM »
Well I am going through the Duke app, and there is an optional essay(either an academic statement or a diversity statement) Since my academics were pretty good, especially for a computer engineer, I figure I should write the diversity statement, but I am having a lot of trouble getting started. If anybody has a DS they want read I would be happy to do so with the benefit of getting an idea of what some look like.

I am thinking about doing it over all the seemingly contradictory things I like to do. For instance, I am a rugby player, but I also designed lighting for a dance recital two years in a row... Any thoughts?

Personal Statement / Re: Readers needed for 3rd PS Draft!!!

Gladly, I would love to trade readings actually, my PS is in rough form and I am having trouble organizing my thoughts. I think editing some others is helping a ton. PM me yours or send it to akirpalani@gmail.com and after I am done I will send mine.

Absolutely, send it over PM or to akirpalani@gmail.com, I'd appreciate it if you could take a look at mine when I am done with yours. Thanks.
