But I would caution that key players in the copyright industry have recently shown a willingness to go after even infringers who seem to be judgment-proof, as with the RIAA file-sharing suits.  They don't seriously expect to be able to collect the statutory damages against teenagers who have no assets, but they can certainly make their lives miserable in the process; getting sued is never fun.  And more importantly, the suit serves the purpose of scaring the willies out of anyone else who might even be thinking of trying the same thing.


I took The RIAA has made it clear that they are persuing file-sharers and the sites that provide software to enable file-sharing simply so they can make an example of them. Napster, Grokster, Morpheus, etc. were thought to be judgement proof for various reasons, including the argument that some of the sites only provided a software and could not be held responsible for the actions of users once they installed it. The courts did not agree & they were shut down.
